Default Dilemna

Hi!

Got kindof a problem here, as my wife is planning on buying me a PS3 game this Xmas

The problem being, which to put in as #1 wish on the list

I narrowed it down to 2, but so different and apparently so good I can't seem to decide.
For the record, I love survival horror, Event Horizon and the Alien series.
I also love anime, wargames, RPG and tactical RPGs.

So .. as many could have guessed, my two picks of the moment are Dead Space and Valkyria Chronicles.

What do you guys think?

Valkyria Chronicles is better than Dead Space, although the latter is also a solid choice.

And, of course, don't forget Metal Gear, LBP, and Uncharted.

I would opt for the new call of duty 5. If it is at least as good as COD4 its a winner.

I have only played Dead space so far, but its fantastic. One of the best games i've played this year.

Don't let that knock your other choices though. All seem to be great games, tough choice I know. I'm not helping so I'll get out of here hehe.

Here's a list of the pros for each game. Both of them are extremely fun, so I won't list that one.

Valkyria Chronicles
-Brand new, unique combat system and flow
-Emphasis on tactics and planning
-Extremely stylish cartoon/surreal graphics
-Fairly entertaining plot

Dead Space
-Curb stomp
-Unique weaponry and moves, like zero-gravity jumps
-Nice graphics
-Trophies

You can't really compare the two since they from entirely different genres.

One thing you can compare however is the length of the gameplay. You can blitz through Dead Space in around 8 hours... and probably extend it to about 15 if you're a perfectionist.

Valkyria Chronicles will take you at least 25hrs + on the first run without all the optional battles and cut scenes. It'll probably end up being a 50hr + game if you want to achieve all A ranks for all the missions and acquire all the medals... And if you're really crazy you could repeat the entire process again with the Japanese vocals

Personally I'd buy Valkyria Chronicles and rent Dead Space since it's the sort of game that you could finish over a weekend. Also with VC we're going to get additional DLC next year that includes new missions and lets you play the Imperial side for a change.

Cheers

Valkyria Chronicles is right up your alley if yuo like anime, RPG, strategy.
not only is this a great title on its own, but it's somethign you may be able to share w/ your wife.
my wife bought this one for me on release date because she saw me playing the demo several times, and now she sits by my side coaching me on strategies when i scratch my head, and waiting for the story to unfold.

not to mention it will probably be a big deal with the anime for valkyria chronicles coming soon, and there is already a sequel of some sort brewing.

alas, i have not played dead space, but even if it is the best game ever made, i'm much too busy playing valkyria.

another option however, would be to get a greatest hits game at a lower price, and another controller.

i've been meanign to pick up Ninja Gaiden Sigma ($30) since it's practically a ninja action RPG, but i'm much too busy w/ FIFA09 and Valkyria.

i would actually recommend the other way around. not to knock on the english dialogue, but the japanese is a much better option for first impressions all the way through, but that's just me.

to this day, the only english dubs i would even consider over the japanese audio with english subs is for Cowboy Bebop... and metal gear, but i still imagine everyone else's voice (bar snake and meryl) would be better in japanese.

i've seen Evangelion several times in english, spanish, and japanese, and i won't get into it, but the english is by far the worst rendition of shinji and asuka, whom i don't need to say, are vital to the story and all character development is revolved around them.
it's still huge in america, but i can see why it didn't make as big an impact here as anywhere else in the world.

in general, i would recommend sticking to the audio language in which the media was written for.
imagine watching Pulp Fiction dubbed in any other language...
