Default Sony and MM ripping Off LBP Sackboy Designs?

http://community.eu.playstation.com/...cending&page=1

so they had a contest to design the best sackboy and now eerily similar sackboys are showing up on psn FOR CHARGE that were entered into the contest by contestants.

When you send a idea to the company its noted in this contests that you surrender any rights to the item.

If they decided to make anything out of those ideas its theres to use, what you think they were going to just toss out all other ideas?

exactly. besides, this is completely within the context of this game. the costumes may have been based on what other people came up with, but doesn't that happen in the game as well with level creation?

You may surrender the rights to any submitted items (which is understandable)

But the whole point of LBP was "play, create, share"
Then they changed the share part to "share some, pay for the rest" because MM wanted top level creators to be compensated for their work.

Now if you surrender the rights to stuff you submit, its not longer about compensating gamers for their work. Its all about MM making extra cash from user created content.

That was probably in the terms of contest.

Seriously, though...you don't think they had a moto racer planned for the release of Motorstorm 2? I think its pure coincidence, IMO...

Of course they had one planned. The guy probably did it knowing full well they would release one just to cry about it later. The shark one is similiar for sure but has some have said, when you enter the contest you give away all rights to your creation. That being said, if they picked it they should have given him something or some acknowledgment. It's also possible they had one already in mind considering they had an animal pack.

Not at all similar to me.

Having your head eaten by a shark and wearing a headpiece that looks like a shark are kinda two VERY different things. lol

Here's as much of an official response as anyone will probably get:

If at any time we take inspiration from a costume competition entry that didn't win overall we will contact the creator directly.

This guy is coming off more as a snippy sore loser then anything. He complains that they didn't instantly name the winner, it could be they released the winning design, but hadn't been able to contact the winner and didn't want to post his name before talking to him. Then goes on and is snarky when he says "Oh they learned from it blah blah when they announced the american one". He lost, and needs to get over himself.

The designs look similar yes, but that's about it. They are totally different concepts.

I bet he made some user created levels that look like crappier versions of the Mm levels, and he's claiming they copied those as well.

That guy needs to learn the rules of competitions. Then again, I see only vague similarities. His costume is clearly a shark eating a sack boy's head. The costume is sack boy wearing a shark head to appear as a shark. Totally different concepts.
