It looks like it will be standard 5.1 Dolby Digital. Blu-ray will also support DTS++ which goes up to 7.1. Eric |

There is no such thing as Dolby Digital "7.1". The actual reference to it is Dolby Digital 5.1 EX. Since this is an extra surround feed that works with the bandwidth of Dolby Digital 5.1, there is no need to change the format standard.
DTS ES has an actual "6.1" feed, because each signal is discrete. They have enough bandwidth to make this possible in today's market (again no need to change the format). The development of TRUE Dolby Digital "7.1" (or whatever it will be) is in the making, but there has been no talk of it being used on Blu-Ray. The difference between 7.1 and 5.1 can be comparable to Dolby Pro-Logic and Dolby Digital 5.1. One gives true discrete channels, while the other makes anological channels. Note: Technically, DTS and Dolby do not go up to 7.1, as this a speaker set-up, not a signal. The rear surround signal is split into two by the power of your amplifier/receiver to make it 7.1, when actually it is a 6.1 signal. |

Ok, also do you think blu-ray players will use coaxial outputs? and if the dts++ format will be on br discs will dts++ be compatible with all previous dts decodings? (i currently have a dts-es dolbyEX receiver) and im guessing br will use both dd-ex and dts-es as default? as most dvds now use dd-5.1 and dts-5.1 as a standard, thanks.
and another question regarding picture, will i see a huge picture diffrence using br over dvd by using a widescreen tv or will the new br format require plasma for full noticeable performance, thanks again. regards |
