Default Jfk???

Has anyone found the JFK blu-ray??? I went all over looking for it and couldn't find it anywhere. Is it a conspiracy??? Is another cover up?? Is it just to make more intrigue about the death of JFK?? Or is it simply just a mix up and delivery schedule??

I looked for it at 3 Best Buys and none of them had it. They got the super-deluxe DVD set, but no Blus. It MUST be a conspiracy!

I picked it up yesterday from MovieStop. I also have the DVD and, after watching the Blu-Ray last night, did not think it was much (if any) of an upgrade. Probably just the way the movie was shot.

Sex, Lies, and Videotape
I'm a huge fan of this movie. It may be Oliver Stone's best film, though you could debate Wall Street, Platoon, and Born on the Fourth of July to me as well. For the two of you who don't know what this is about, it's about the only trial to ever be prosecuted surrounding the assassination of John Fitzgerald Kennedy. This film highlights the much debated and oft theorized conspiracy theory of the second gunman on the grassy knoll.

The video transfer on this release is a mixed bag, but it's meant to be. Stone uses multiple film types, preperations, and post-production techniques to give his film the feeling of a scrapbook of the investigation. There is archival footage abound, as well as fake archival footage(including a small role for Vincent D'Onofrio). There is soft-focus sepia toned images, as well as sharp saturated images. Some may find these many uses annoying, confusing or tired, I find them engaging. The images of the investigation are sharp and vibrant with bit-rates soaring into the 30's. The Audio on this disc is very well represented, while mostly dialogue the film does feature a fabulous score from John Williams.

I went into Best Buy yesterday expecting to find a copy, nothing unfortunately and I doubt it was because it sold out unless they only got 2-3 copies. It seems like they've been real bad with catalog releases on Blu actually being in their spot, when American Gangster and Casino were released, the placeholder sale cards were there advertising them for $19.99 but they were no where to be find. Associates were less then helpful.

DVDBeaver Review

Quote:
Image:
This is a very impressive Blu-ray image - especially considering the film is now 18+ years old. Detail is very strong while colors are a shade muted. Some scenes can tend to look a bit glossy and this may be a factor of the VC-1 encode - frequently utilized by Warner. We've seen better contrast but it's not fatal. Stone's common use of vintage newsreel and faux 'similar' comes through as intended. The feature size is a gimongous 37.5 Gig on the dual-layered Blu-ray - probably more related to the 3.5 hour long film. There is no DNR or edge enhancements that I could ascertain. There is some noise and sporadically visible grain. You may click on the screen grabs to see the full 1080 resolution. It looks much crisper than I was anticipating. This transfer is akin to Stone's Nixon which we also endorse for visual quality. This is the 'Director's Cut' - some 16 minutes longer than the theatrical version.
Audio & Music:
TrueHD 5.1 is competent but the film is almost solely dialogue driven beyond John Williams original score and the brief interludes of N'awlins music we hear. There are optional subtitles offered only in English or French.

Best Buy is very hit and miss with these older titles. The one by my house never has the hard to find stuff, so i usually have to go to one in a more densely populated part of the city. Those locations tend to have almost every major release.

the best buy that i go to is in a very, very densely populated area. i drive 30 mins to get to this one best buy and they didnt even have it. and also, while im ranting, could the best buy employees be any more ignorant to the products they are selling. and im not lumping them all together cuz i have had some very helpful ones in the home theatre department, so i apologize if you are a helpful best buy employee, but for the most part, the employees i encounter at best buy are morons!

and i also just noticed that you are a cardinals fan, riff magnum...

well the best buy that i speak of is in st. louis. pretty densely populated. i live about 25 mins outside of StL

Got mine on 11/10 from WHV and I must say, they did a GREAT job with JFK. The TrueHD sound is exceptional and the PQ is outstanding for a title 17 years old. I also enjoyed the extended and deleted scenes that I hadn't ever seen on other releases.

Now, if we could just get Warner to use standard cases...

I spoke with a 'Movie Specialist' in Best Buy in metro DC, apparently they serve as the procurers of the discs that appear on the store shelves, but aren't direct Best Buy employees. First time I've seen one and didn't know they existed and that's how BB determined which new releases would be on shelves, maybe it's a new idea. She was plugging away placing the titles

Anyways, she told me that she did not know of any plans for BBs across the country to stock JFK Blu-Rays during release week though they had plenty of the SD 3-Disc edition that came out this week. She could not tell me why even when I told her I was puzzled because my local store carried 10 of Nixon back on Aug. 19th, which is a much less popular Stone catalog title. This info saved me trips to about 10 other BBs that are within a 20 mile radius of mu location, but I was disappoined to say the least. Circuit Citys, Targets and Wal-Marts also appear not to be carrying them this week. Finally, I was able to purchase mine from an FYE store but at 29.99 price, the most I've ever paid for a single-disc release.

Hope this info was helpful in some way. Happy hunting!

The extended and deleted scenes were a part of a previous SD release, the 2-Disc Special Edition Director's Cut that features the same cover as the Blu-Ray version.
