Default Speaker Trauma... things to check before turning it on?

I JUST got home from work, and my two dogs came in the house with me and were all excited running around and playing with each other when I hear BLAM!

They knocked over one of my F2 towers. It landed on it's front side hard enough to break the grill. I don't see any damage to the speakers themselves. Anything specific I should look for before I turn it on and see how it sounds?

In a drunken stupor, one of my ladyfriends accidentally knocked over one of my Polk M50 rears when they were in their old position right behind the couch. No speaker/driver damage, tweeters and woofers still worked fine, but the veneer on the MDF enclosure peeled a bit, so I...put a little black touch-up paint on it so I couldn't see it. Mainly aesthetic. But DAAAANG did it make a sound when it landed on my tile floor. Of course, it didn't fall on its front, it fell on its side.

Sorry to hear that. I have some things that I want to recommend but i'm not so sure. When one of my old bookshelfs was knocked off its stand I used a battery to determine if there were any issues with the connections in the box (i.e. if the speaker moved no problem, then all was well.. also a good way to check polarity) After that, I'd say visually inspect everything, look for tears.. gradually increase volume with some music and see if it distorts

Good Luck

Well mine hit the front, but my room is carpeted. I'll check it out and let you know. Cross your toes for me.

Sorry to hear that man. I'd also gradually increase the volume while listening to music and check for any distortion.

In case you need parts to repair the damage to your speakers, go to Parts Express. They have most replacement parts, including drivers, vinyl laminate, grills, grill cloth, spikes, dust caps, terminals, cabinets, etc.

It sounds like all is well other than the busted grill. It's not too terribly noticable, but if Klipsch doesn't want an arm and a leg for it; I'll probably see if I can get a new one.

Thanks guys

If it's still under warranty, you might get a free one, I know Polk gives out free grilles.

Maybe just avoid...telling them...that...your doggies did it,

Iam sorry to hear it brother,
I hope there's no damage.
I can feel your pain.
I always have a fear that one of my boys are going to rough house in my living room in put there foot though one of my subs.
I truly think that could make me snap and i don't consider myself an angry person

LOL.... well I was cussing and I threw them both out of the house and they still haven't gotten their dinner yet.

I'm pretty sure there was a cat on the window sill and my little wild dog wanted to mess with it. I found her as a puppy at a gas station by the interstate on my way to work one day. She's cute as a button and super sweet, but no matter how much I work with her she still acts like she has no home training.

Now I'm rethinking all of my speaker placements. Sure they sound better out from the walls but they'd be safer against the walls.

Oh well..... in the end it's only money right?

They do?!? Seriously? If so, I'll take them up on that offer. I don't need them right now for my fronts but may need them for the $30 Polk Monitor 4's I just bought.
