It's all about DC. I grew up on Marvel in the late 70's and early 80's, but shifted to DC after Crisis and took on their new worlds and history. When I got back into comics in the last few years, I went back to both but found a really good home with DC. Too many of the marvel books are "gritty" real world pieces that don't provide good escapism. Not all books need to, but man, I didn't need to see that much of the real world reflected in that form.

marvel easily for the win. dc comics is nice and all, but they tend to be too cartoony. at least they used to be. it's not about "gritty" in terms of "realism". it's about gritty in terms of darker tones and story. i like to read good old comic book stories, but i love more to read darker stories that don't feel like they're made for the 6-10 set. plus, the whole death of superman/rebirth/death of clark kent thing drove me away from them. they've gotten better lately, but nothing beats marvel. the greatest comic book story is fearful symmetry and is a marvel production. now if they made that into a movie that could be the best comic book movie ever made.

yes. frank miller is good. the problem is graphic novels are not usually in the continuity of the comic books. and while the graphic novels are good (really good in fact), they're comics still are not. superman didn't get good until the last part of the 80's with the new superman series. by the 90's though he and dc sucked again.

I like them both but lately DC gets my vote only because I love the character of Batman and they have better villians in their universe. Marvel is great too with Spider-man being my favourite.
On a side note: Although TDK is tied as my fav film of all time (along side SP2). Marvel does make better films with Spider-man, Iron Man, Incredible Hulk, Fantastic 4. DC does have great films (eventually will top Marvel) as well but they haven't adapted enough characters yet to beat Marvel. Just my opinion |
