Thumbs up 2012 Blu-ray.com AWARDS - Nomination Period Open!!

ELIGIBILITY PERIOD - DECEMBER 1, 2011 - NOVEMBER 30, 2012

1. BEST NEW RELEASE - Any widely available release that comes to DVD/Blu/other formats at the same time. Any new release Blu-Ray disc from December 1, 2011 - November 30, 2012.

2. BEST CATALOG TITLE - Any new form of media widely released to the Blu-Ray disc format.

3. BEST LIMITED EDITION SET - A set that will make your friends extremely jealous! This can also include special steelbooks, pre-order cases, etc. Also includes special limited sets available exclusive to certain retailers stores, websites, etc.

4. BEST VIDEO QUALITY - The highest reference quality. The disc you want to show off to all your friends.

5. BEST AUDIO QUALITY - The disc that has the audio that will wake the neighbors!

6. BEST SPECIAL FEATURES - The disc with the best features. Quality, not quantity.

7. BEST STUDIO - Which studio put out the best discs with the greatest quality?

8. BEST SLIPCOVER - Some are obsessive, some could careless, but mostly, these are the most important parts to any Blu-Ray purchase!

9. BEST RETAILER
- Anywhere you get your Blu-Ray discs! Websites, stores, etc. Factor pricing, availability, exclusives, etc. into your vote!

Remember to keep in mind DECEMBER 2011 discs and (late) NOVEMBER 2012 discs as well.

You can include the same release as need be in certain categories. Some releases were "catalog titles" but they also had a "limited edition" set as well released.

Each member can submit up to TEN (10) nominations for each category. The lists you submit will be RANKED. The higher the position, the more points awarded. You MUST submit AT LEAST FIVE (5) nominations for each category you choose to partake in. You do not need to vote in every category, but you should.

Nominations you submit will be valued as follows:

#1. 10 points
#2. 9 points
#3. 8 points

and so on...

The nomination period will run: NOVEMBER 25th 1201 AM EST - DECEMBER 8th 1159 PM EST.

Nominations will be announced on December 9th at 12 PM EST.
Each category will have FIVE total choices to vote from.

Voting will then begin and run until December 23rd at 12 PM EST.

The results will be revealed on Christmas Eve when everyone is sharing about all the new Blu-Ray discs they have purchased!

PM your votes with "BLU-RAY.COM AWARDS NOMINATIONS" in the subject, and try not to post them in here either. We want it to be a surprise! You can slyly mention who you might be voting for, and post reminders of certain movies, etc. people should remember to include, but that's it! Have fun Send all your votes

There were more categories that could have been included, but we are just trying to keep it simple and fun. People don't like having to go through tons of categories, and these are clearly the biggest and most important categories.

Any release you feel necessary! As long as it falls in the eligible window. People visit this site from all over, so anything can happen!

It was considered, but there still are not a ton of 3D releases, so the category wouldn't be as competitive, and many members here still do not own a 3D set up. The other 9 categories are something that every member can contribute to from just basic Blu-Ray purchases. Maybe next year 3D will be added.

Would Twilight Time releases fall under the Best Limited Edition Set title, as they're only individual releases, but are limited?

Another question - would Shout and Scream be two different studios/labels? I'd like to be able to differentiate between them.

For those mulling Best Studio, taking into account their typically servicable though rarely reference-level transfers and usual lack of extras, one really has to give some consideration to including Olive as a top 5 label. They released 77! - 77! - Blu-rays in 2012. Some were great, some were neglected B gems, some were merely average, but very few were genuinely bad. Even the Wayne films are of historical interest. That's a pretty consistent production level, and considering the thankfully low prices that Import CDs charges, an economically feasible product as well.

Yes, those would be entered in the Limited category.

Shout/Scream would be set as the same thing. Scream is just a sub category. A nomination for Shout would include the entire Shout set of releases from all categories.
