Smile Poll -Dark Knight sales first week ?

Iron man sold over 500,000 in its first week (260,000 first day sales) of release on blu-ray and my previous poll showed over 90% of people who voted said TDK would sell more. We all know this will happen but just how many copies do you think The Dark Knight blu-ray will sell?

Anyone think Dark Knight will surpass Titanic? There's a very good chance that it will.

Good question! What are the numbers of the Titanic and The Dark Knight at this point?

Iron Man got 500,000 in its first week, and it was in September.

Dec 9th-Dec 16th week is a HUGE week for the late Christmas Shoppers.

750,000

And I really hope no one seriously thinks it will sell anywhere near 5-10 million in its first week on Blu Ray. Maybe DVD, but NO WAY on blu ray

Thanks for posting. I dont think The Dark Knight will reach that by the time the blu-ray and DVD are released. Maybe they will re-release it around Oscar time next year that could help.

As I recall though, Titanic was out for 36 weeks in the theatres, which is why it made $600 million. Give the Dark Knight that long and I'm sure it would pass Titanic.

alot.

No way is The Dark Knight going to pass Titanic. Adjusted for inflation, using the same 2008 dollars that TDK has earned, Titanic sold over $900 MILLION worth of tickets. Unadjusted for inflation, Titanic's worldwide total is a staggering $1.8 BILLION. TDK is at $990 million.

The reason Titanic played so long was because of its popularity. Unlike The Dark Knight, Titanic was NOT FRONT LOADED. It's opening weekend gross was only $28 million vs the $158 million for TDK. Titanic also earned at least $11 million for 16 STRAIGHT WEEKS. No movie will ever accomplish that.

Well, maybe if The Dark Knight had been the #1 movie for 16 weeks in a row like Titanic instead of the mere 4 it lasted, maybe they would have let it stay in the theaters longer.

Sorry, unless you own stock in Warner, I don't understand why you give a crap which is the highest grossest film.

All of Titanics Academy Award nominations helped it as well. If The Dark Knight gets nominated for at least Heath Ledgers Best Supporting actor it could help drive sales even more. It is a possibility!

Anything over 1.5 million is ludicrous.

I'm going for the 500,000 - 1,000,000.

Let's see, I'm definitely buying the release, save for death or serious dismemberment, so that's 1.

As for my true opinion, I think it will sell in the neighborhood between 850,000 and 950,000 in Week 1 and certainly dethrone Iron Man as the #1 selling BD of all-time as you have to assume/believe that everyone who purchased Iron Man will also buy The Dark Knight plus many of those new adopters who buy blu-ray players from Black Friday through 12/9.
