Default Your favorite Philip Seymour Hoffman performance

*Poll is supposed to say "My favorite Philip Seymour Hoffman performance was in..."*

We lost a great character actor last week. His resume is quite impressive so this should be hard, but which of these films features your favorite PSH performance? I listed the more popular/significant ones to avoid clutter, so just post if you don't see your favorite listed.

He won the Best Actor Academy Award for Capote, and he was also nominated for Charlie Wilson's War, Doubt, and The Master.

Some of the other films not listed: Jack Goes Boating, Hard Eight, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, Moneyball, 25th Hour, Red Dragon, Talented Mr. Ripley, Ides of March, Cold Mountain, A Late Quartet

Toss up between Synecdoche and Master. Ultimately went with The Master because he has such a grasp over a character that is so elusive.

He's hilarious in Lebowski and Punch Drunk. His comedy roles are always small but full of energy.

Honestly can't remember his part in Almost Famous though, I'll have to seek that one out again.

Capote. I saw this movie in the theater, and was blown away.

So many exceptional performances and characters he managed to portray. I would have to go with The Master. Synecdoche, Capote (of course) and Charlie Wilson's War coming close.

well you didn't mention "the ides of march" which was probably my favorite film he was in.

In terms of his leading role i enjoyed "the master" but all of his films were pretty brilliant.

Hoffman had so much respect for film history and knew the importance of "career acting" choosing his roles so carefully and wisely through the years. Hard to fathom he was battling his own personal demons for so long.

On screen and in public eye his life look so simple, ordinary and under control.

He's the last person I thought something this bad could happen to.

I am so tempted to be that one ass who puts down My Boyfriend's Back.

But I'll do Almost Famous.

Also, why no Red Dragon?

If you thought "nothing special" you probably don't know much about acting or range.

I can't even choose a favorite personally. The master or happiness is close. That picture of him with his award really bums me out

I was supposed to list it and totally forgot. Should have just listed everything but I was just about to go to bed so I rushed the poll.

I've seen it twice and it's obviously an important film for his career since he directed and starred in it. It's out on blu for anyone who hasn't seen it yet.

Tough call. So many great and enjoyable ones to choose from. I'm going to go with The Master even though part of me really wants to show some love for Charlie Wilson's War (a great Oscar nominated performance by Hoffman, and a criminally under-appreciated film).
