Default Uh Oh!

So we are a week away from moving, the house is a disaster area with boxes everywhere. And now I may have screwed my plasma!

I have been so carefull with my panasonic plasma since I got it 2 months ago and I had a slip up yesterday. My son was watching Home Alone. Well I forgot to shut the t.v. off because I have to much going on right now. I had to pick up my wife from work than drop the kids off than go out of town and when I got back the menu was on the screen. I felt sick to my stomach at this point.

Anyways pretty much the whole menu screen is burnt into my t.v. It's hard to see unless it is on a gray screen. But it's definately there. I figure it was on there for a good 4 hours. I'm white washing it now and will run full screen high def content for the rest of the day. Hopefully it will go away.

What do you guys think???

On the other hand I get to start my home theatre room all over at the new house which I am definately looking forward to. I'm thinking on going with a screen and a projector but I need to start researching it. Thanks guys.

It's probably not actually burnt in, but is just image retention which will fade away as you use the tv more.

It's IR (image retention). It will go away in time from watching moving content. I'd say even if you left it on for a day or two, the chances of true burn-in are remote.

ok that's a releif. I thought it was burn in because all of my image retention usually goes away as soon as there is another image over it. Anyways I'll keep you guys posted, and when I move into the new house I'll take pics of the new thatre room and track my progress on remodeling it. Thanks

I'd say IR I dont know if your particular plasma has the same anti burn in stuff that my samsung does but most likely I would say that you will be fine even if you have to white wash it for a longer period of time most likely it will just vanish at some point.

I get nervous leaving a static image on for even 5 minutes. Better safe than sorry!

Just to give you a little more encouragement that it is likely not burn-in:

A friend of mine accidentally did the same thing except it was over about 10 hours. He left it on and pause, answered the phone, and ran out of the house one day as he explained. When he came back, he panicked and shut off the TV after he noticed the "burn in". A few hours later after the TV cooled down or whatever, he turned it back on and it was barely noticeable and he watched TV for a couple hours. By the next morning, it was totally gone.

Plasmas have definitely come a long way and as mentioned before, true burn-in doesn't happen as often unless the TV is really abused. Really abused.

I honestly wouldn't get too worked up about it. It usually takes more than 4 hours to really tweak a newer plasma with burn in.

You should be fine. Similar thing happened to me when I got my TV last year. Just keep doing what you're doing, have it on digital snow or HD 1.78:1 content for a while. I watch mine as I go to sleep, and always remember to set the off timer.
