Default Slither release date?

I loved this movie in theaters and am dying to replace my DVD with high def. Now, amazon.com has it listed for a release date of 9 Dec 08 (US and CAN), while our website here says 1 Dec 08 CAN only.

Does anyone know if this will actually be released here next Tuesday? And if anyone has the CAN version, how did it turn out? Thanks...

No way is it getting a US release for next week. There hasn't been an announcement or press release at all.

Default Slither Canadian BD

Slither Blu-ray

Just watched it and it looks "different" from the HD-DVD encode.

First off, it's an AVC encode which is much higher than the VC1 encode contained on the HD-DVD. The bit rate is also higher (low 20s) on the BD-25 as the HD-DVD was a combo release on a HD15 / DVD9. There is a bit of DNR on the BD, but going back and forth between the two versions didn't reveal the application to be too offensive as grain is still present in most scenes (especially the ambush section in the middle of the film), but be aware that has indeed been through he process. Even so, the BD exhibits richer colors, MUCH deeper blacks, moderately better clarity, and no real banding or artifacting that were occasionally present on the HD-DVD.

As far as sound goes, the BD's True HD track easily trumps the DD+ track on the HD-DVD. surrounds are a bit more active, channel separation is much more transparent, and the overall presence is more atmospheric with slightly better decay and envelopment.

All the extras from the DVD / HD-DVD are present as well.

Worth the import in my opinion.

I ordered this and it was a blind buy. I enjoyed it for what it was, predictable horror type flick and mildly humorous. Here a scan of back art for extras, etc

Love this movie. Would have been worse if it didn't have Nathan Fillion or Michael Rooker.

Love this movie. I think the Canada release has no special features, which is why I've held off for the full USA release.

Just thought I'd bump this thread to see if anyone's heard anything about a U.S. release. The Canadian one is 1080i so I've been holding out...

It would be nice. They already have it in HD so why not just release it already. This is one title I've been wanting since I started buying Blu's and I really don't want to order the Canadian release.

Man, I'd love to get this on Blu-ray. I have the HD DVD, but since my player is upstairs and not with the main theater stuff, I never watch it. That and my player doesn't work 99% of the time lol.

Would also buy Day 1 if released in the U.S., along with "Feast".

+1 But only the first one. It upsets me how bad they messed that series up. Would love to see Undead on blu as well. I'm patiently waiting for Slither though.

A film of this status has no chance of seeing a U.S. release on Blu-ray. The market is just not there, and the distributor is having financial problems. Fans should hope an import BD at 1080p becomes available, or bite the bullet and accept the 1080i Canadian version.

I hated FEAST 2 so much that I won't bother even trying the 3rd one or
anything that the loser director ever has his name on again!
