Why do you need a standalone BD player if you have a PS3? What TV do you have? What receiver do you have? ETC....

I would get the $128 player at Walmart on Black Friday.

I have read up on the player and like it. It's profile 1.1 and I like that. I don't care for the BD-Live crap.

Sony S350, I have the ps3, S350, Samsung 1500 and had the Insignia player as well, out of those the s350 is my fav. 60gb ps3 is just a tad noisy and hot, plus I get to bitstream to my receiver now. Just my personal choice.

He doesn't need it.... he wants it

Maybe to save wear and tear on the PS3 optical drive so it will have more gaming life?

We do need to know though if you want to use the lossless audio formats, and what type of receiver you have to see how to get you those lossless formats.

S350 or BD35 Pana are the two players of choice this holiday it seems
(nothing against the BD1500, they just seem better, and the BD35 is the first Blu Ray standalone player to earn Cnet's unequivocal kudos if memory serves)

My ps3 sounds like a helicopter taking off when it gets hot. That would be my only reason for getting a standalone, which I have been considering for a while.

What are your requirements? Does your receiver decode True-HD and DTS-HD MA, or do you need a player that can do that?

Personally, I would go for a BD-Live unit since there's always the possibility of something interesting coming down the pipe.

Panasonic DMP-BD35 would appear to be the most fully featured entry level player and covers all the bases, and would be my current choice for a standalone.

But I'm happy with the PS3 - mine's pretty quiet... (I would hold out until we see units with wireless.. hope that is coming sooner or later)

If you have a Kmart nearby, this would be an excellent buy for you:

http://bfads.net/Sony-Bluray-Disc153...-Kmart-Fri-Sat

The Sony BDP-S350 does all the audio codecs (bitstream) as well as being 2.0 compliant. It also has excellent PQ and AQ. This is the player to get at that price range.

Either of these will do. Stay away from Samsung players.

I am gonna do the same. Already hava a PS3 but I'd like to have a stand alone. I will get the Sony S350 this weekend. After checking lots of reviews I'll go for Sony. I have 2 HDTVs (One 32 and one 46, both Sony).
Best,
DJ Headd
