Default Hello, Samsung?

Hi everyone, I just recently purchased the samsung LN46A630 1080p. I was wondering if the picture setting that come out of the box (Default settings?) are best for Blu ray movies or should be set different? I checked the tweak my tv but didnt have my TV on there. Thanks.

It will definitely need a calibration.

By calibration you mean the user level settings or are you referring to professional level? Clarify because telling someone that they need to spend XXX.00 for a pro to come to their house and calibrate their new XXXX.00 TV is utter non-sense.

Out of the box, typically the samsungs have the backlight up high around 8 or 10, that needs to be around 3-5. That will help to preserve your backlight and even out the picture. Personally I prefer to watch more movies in the dark with very few lights on, so I like my picture to be a little darker. on the menu page, go to set up and you will see HDMI black level, that should be to low. Also, for a more natural picture I prefer the xvYCC setting under the picture>detailed settings to be ON. I like to use the Movie mode, and warm1, contrast at 80-90, brightness between 40-55. Many of the other settings you are going to have to play with for a while until you get it to where you like it. It took me 6 months to get it where i have it.

There are calibration discs you can buy, there is also a forum for settings at the top of the HDTV dicussion page for sharing your samsung settings. perhaps you could post there and someone will help you by giving you their TV settings. Also, since you have a 120hz TV, your settings will prolly be really close to that of the A650's. At least as a jumping off point.

Good Luck.

No, you don't need a professional to do this. You can use the DVE HD basics disc found here http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....uct&id=1705530 or any Sony pictures Blu-ray and most Disney Blu-rays have a calibration tool, but with the Sony you have to input a code to access it but I can not remember the code.

No, I didn't mean a professional. DVE would do just fine.
