How long is the PS3 Warranty?

My friends kids PS3 stopped working and she was just wondering if it's still covered under it's warranty... He got it last year for christmas so it's less then a year old...

Warranty is 12 months. I didn't want to start another thread so i'll just ask my question here....is it common for a ps3 to break often? I bought my ps3 novemember 25th 2007, and broke down in march....and then it broke down on dec. 1st 2008.....lucky for me sony decided to cover the charges since it had only been a few days past my warranty
But my question is should i just start thinking of getting a new ps3? Is it the system that i got defective. oh and by the way both these times that it broke down was for the same issue....the ps3 not reading any media....I use it for both gaming and to watch blu rays....so should i cut back on gaming? Well any thoughts would be helpful.

ps3's are known to last a long time most people that bought when ps3 first came out have had no problems, but I do recommend getting an extended warranty. I bought mine from best buy a year after the ps3 first came out and a little while ago it stopped working so I took it back to best buy exchanged it for a new one with a bigger hard drive and renewed my waranty and they ended up giving me money because the system is cheaper now then it was when I bought it. Sweet deal.

I got mine in Nov 06 and use it everyday a lot and it's like new.

Certainly the laser will fail eventually... Lasers have a lifetime just like lightbulbs but some do last longer than they should.

I still have extended warranty that I purchased on mine till next Nov.

The nice thing is Sony will fix a out of warranty PS3 pretty cheap... I think it's like $250 but that's a good deal if you ask me ... I hope they keep doing that.

Thanks, i'll have to check that out...i got it off target and its been more than a year now, so i'll check out target policies on extended warranties...

Oh the first person i talked to told me if it was more than a year of purchase, sony would charge me $149
But i rather get another ps3 if this laser will fail that soon too....by the way, do you guys think its a good idea to remove the 250gig hdd when i send it in for repair and replace with the 40 that i still have somewhere?
