Have $300-$400 to spend...wondering what is the best 7.1 receiver in this price range

Also...(newbie question)
4 wall speakers
2 front speakers
1 subwoofer
1 center channel

That = 8 speakers....can a receiver do this?

I like Onkyo 606 but from what I have heard the Sony STRDG920 is pretty good and is currently on Amazon for $399 shipped so that is one choice or get the onkyo 606 for $320 shipped. If you did not mind going $49 over I would get the Onkyo 705 $449 shipped on Amazon.

I would suggest you look at the Pioneer 1018, it is about $50 over your budget but is worth it and is better then the Onkyo. Also, I just bought the Sony 920 cause the Pioneer was too big for my AV rack, and it is an awesome machine as well. I listened to each of these and the Pioneer was the best. Sony and Onkyo were pretty much the same but the Sony had a few extra features I liked.

I really suggest that you go listen to the receiver before you buy it. IMO.
