Default Twilight Director Talks Up Blu-ray Plans

Quote:
On the verge of her film's super-hyped release, Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke spoke during a press junket about how Blu-ray Disc high definition resolution is impacting the film's visual effects.
In Twilight, vampires are not killed by sunlight as typically portrayed in stories. Instead, their skin "sparkles" with great intensity, so much so that it makes them stand out from humans and forces their hand in choosing where to live.

Hardwicke has already seen the "sparkle" effect on Blu-ray and is pleased with the results stating, "it looks really great. I was worried how that would translate."

While she seems pleased there is still room for improvement. Apparently there is a chance ILM will punch up the effect exclusively for Blu-ray Disc and DVD, with Blu-ray obviously making the most of it.

"We are looking into to going back to ILM and pushing that scene a little further for the Blu-ray Disc. We have about a dozen deleted or extended scenes to put on the DVD, and I made a couple crazy montages of all the times the vampires kiss or attack someone and of all the human hijinx, and I've done a visual remix of the movie for the DVD (and presumably Blu-ray) also."

Twilight on Blu-ray Disc will be released by Summit Entertainment in the first half of 2009.

You guys are despicable. Is there a reason that you hate twilight? If there was I'd understand bit if your just ripping on it to be "cool" just stop. Give it a chance then say you hate it!

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing when I started seeing the commercials for this film. It just looks cheap, not the story or anything, just the way it looks visually.

Here's an idea for the Blu-ray... put a different film on it. A good one.

Saw it last night and here's my opinion...

If the book series is content is 100 times better than what the film portrays, I'm glad I saw the film. That way I feel as though I've only wasted 2 hours instead of however many it would take to read them, along with only wasted $12.50 instead of the retail value of the paperback issues. That's right. Even if the books are 100 times better than the film, I still think that they would be horrible reads! Especially atrocious was the dialogue of the film. There are at least 20 predictably lame comments in the film that were so over the top cheezy that every 13-17 year old male would rather be hung by their testes than try to mutter with sincerity. And the vampires are absolutely boring without fangs, without a fear of frying in the sunlight (don't even get me started on this "sparkling in sunlight" bullsh!t), and without anything credibly interesting to make them the mysterious figures that they have always been. Ultimately, the vampires in the film are far too boring to be intrigued by... even if they are "more realistic and modern." Oh, and to give away the obvious conflict that will present itself more vampidly in the sequel (ya, I said it!),
[Show spoiler]one of the first characters we meet instantly smiles and has enormously apparent fangs that nobody seems to notice. Wonder what he could be? He has a lot of hair!
It's as though the author/director took 'Underworld', the Kevin Spacey's daughter storyline from 'American Beauty', melded them together, dropped them into a 'Dawsons Creek' template, and polished the final draft by having a 14 year old Backstreet Boys bi-polar OCD mental patient proof-read it for notes.

ON THE POSITIVE: There is one, and only one, interesting idea used in the film involving a baseball game that I thought was pretty clever. That's all that I will say for fear of giving away what little this film actually has to offer.

Seriously though, the only thing more painful than the film itself was the fact that 100+ girls "screamed with excitement" every 2nd or 3rd time that a word passed over Edward's lips. Hell, even the "awe shucks, isn't that cute" moments where someone might kiss or start to dance were blasted with screams of excitement instead of the typical respectful, "Aaaawwww." Actually, the best way to describe the theatre atmosphere before the show started was like that of a concert. There were at least 50 cameras flashing continuously for 40 minutes while girls were saying stuff like "Oh my god... like, that is going to be a good one. That is, like, totally going in my Twilight scrapbook that I will be making."

The film will no doubt rake in a plethora more than it should at the box office, as tweens and teens... well, the female masses of that demographic anyhow... will be revisiting the theatres far too much to indulge in this floatsom. However, it still receives my vote for WORST MOVIE OF THE YEAR!!!

But, that's just my opinion.

I took my daughter to this movie yesterday, she had read all the books and I didn't know that much about them except on how to order them from Amazon. The effect their talking about would benefit from blu-ray especially if they decide to tweek it as it didn't look that cool on screen. To each their own.

I suppose if I were a teenage girl (or had the mind of one) I might be really interested in seeing this, but I'm not so I don't.

Like you have never seen a movie advertised that made you think, "That movie looks; silly; stupid; like a waste of time...etc, etc, etc" (substitute your own negative adjective).

Anyone who would like THIS movie will like anything.

Vampires don't sparkle in sunlight, they burn up. Vampires don't go to school.

I like vampire movies, but this looks like a terrible addition to the genre.

From what I've read,
[Show spoiler]the "bad" vampires bite people. The "good" vampires feed off of animals.

I'd much rather see HBO issue their new vampire series 'True Blood' on Blu. (And hopefully they will.) Now that's a great show!

I don't get all the hatred towards this film and the book series. You can NOT judge it when you haven't seen it. Either you like it or you don't. It is a story of vampires that do not want to be seen as monsters just because it's in their nature...but there are those heartless, monstrous vampires as well in the film.
The effect in the sun is from the book which says that vampires are different than what humans see in movies...do you want every story to be the same? Of course not!
Who said this movie is "without fangs or blood? please."...you have got to be kidding me.
a) you haven't seen it.
b) you haven't read the books
c) you don't know what you're talking about
d) you haven't seen it which permits you to not express an opinion on something you have not seen.

I have seen the film. I did not loved it, but I didn't hate it. I have read all the books in the series and they are addicting as woah. The movie will be enjoyable to those that go in there with a positive outlook...and it's one of those films that grows on you as the story progresses.

A definite buy on blu!
