Talking Adopted Some More Kitties Saturday

I was out and about and headed to Crate & Barrel and then to The Pottery Barn. After that we were headed home and PetCo was on the way. It was new to the area and I could not decided whether to go in or just head home. So at the last second, we pulled in.

We saw the dogs out front and as much as we wanted to look we said no and kept walking. No less than 2 minutes inside, we come across two cats, both brothers, snuggling in their cage. What caught my eye was both had gray noses and one was all gray, the other was white with gray spots all over. The cutest pair I have ever seen. I thought for about 20 minutes what to do. I asked the lady how long they have been up for adoption and she said 1 month. There were kittens, but they will find homes quicker. These guys are 6 months old. Have all their shots, neutered and good to go. Plus, it was adopt one, get one "free" day. I think it was national adopt a pet day or something. So instead of paying 2 x $75 for two cats - we pain just $75. Plus we got $20 dollars off at the register on our purchases because we adopted.

So, I now have two more kitties to our pack. One is Tucker (white and gray), the other is Cooper (all gray).

They have adapted very well, not skittish at all and have taken to our house like nobodies business. All the other cats are fine and my first cat - Kitty - has become sore of the mom again. She cleaned both of them yesterday.

Some of you might think I am crazy, but I just could not say no. Something took me to that store for a reason. I initially was not going to go. However at the last minute - something made me go. Call it whatever. I am happy I did.

Two kitties will now have a happier Thanksgiving and Christmas

Also, there were other people there adopting older cats as well, which I thought was really cool. Everyone was happy we were taking both. A couple adopted an older cat that had bound leash or ingrown leash? Something about the leash being left on so long the body started growing around it. Lots of surgeries and stuff. Appears she was back to normal and in good health. They adopted her.

It was just nice seeing all these people adopting and giving money to animals that need it.

I think the recent two adoptions will be my last ones for a while. Lol. Don't think I can deal with more than 6 cats.

Careful, one or two more and you'll be known as the crazy cat people.

I've always been a dog person myself. My last was a 205 lb. St. Bernard. Just saw an ad in the newspaper for 9 wk old puppies and am really thinking about getting one. I have a cat and would love to see his reaction as this little puppy just keeps growing.

Lol, yeah I know. I just could not say no though. We do have dogs too - 4 of them. No issues so far.

St. Bernard's are very cool!

Everytime I go into PetCo with my wife, it's always a fear that we'll end up with even more pets than we have. She loves animals.

We have cats, dogs, had ferrets, birds, etc.

I'd load mine in the back of my truck on Saturdays and ride to the Krystals drive-thru and split a dozen Krystals with him. For as big as they are, they are really laid back. The neighborhood kids always wanted to play with him when I took him on walks, and women really liked him.

Congratz on your growing family! We get our cat food at a local seller who always has cats to adopt, mostly those turned out by their owners because they move and don’t take the pet with them. My whole family loves cats, we currently have 3. One old guy with diabetes and another with a Thyroid condition which require medication, but to us, our family is not complete without pets. We would like to have a dog, but we’re not home enough to really take care of one.

P.S. How do you justify making a post like that without pictures?

I have to get some of the new guys soon. Your guys are cuties! The new guys were going after my toes last night. Was funny and hurt, but that's how they all were. Still learning.

You know what I like about adopting pets, my dog is adopted, they are neutered/spayed when you get them.

More people need to adopt pets instead of going to pet stores that buy from puppy farms.

Thank you for your good deed.

I agree. I however don't let that be the deciding factor when I adopt. There are too many places available that practically do it for free now (the charge is just so minimal its not even funny).

There is a place here called PALS. They will do it for like 20/40 bux if I recall? Cheap! Its where we have taken several of our animals.

There's actually a law here in California that unless you have a AKC registered pet for breeding purposes, you have to spay or neuter your animal.

More states need to do this, I feel bad every time I see a dog/cat lying on the road that was hit or died.

Once I buy a house my wife and I will be adopting more dogs.

Sometimes I'd like to have a cat so I wouldn't be so lonely but I have to admit that I am a bit of a lazy bastard so I must consider the fact that I may end up not taking good care of the cat. You know stuff like changing the litter, buying food and so on.

congrats on your new adopted kids...

I am allergic to cats otherwise I'd probably have one or two to go with my dogs but no dice...

The misses and I were dicussing getting a new adoptee after the new year - we figure someone won't have time to care for some little ones and will turn them in because they pee everywhere (uh, ya, when you don't walk them they tend to do that!).

My little guys need a little girl to play with (plus my wife is feeling way out numbered!)

My state (Delaware) doesn't allow dogs to be sold in pet stores (might even be cats too).
The only animals you can buy are birds, fish, reptiles and small mammals.

That's the cool thing about cats. They pretty much take care of themselves. You provide love, food and clean bathroom.

Sad that people are not smart enough to realize that animals do require care. Lol.

Good for you, DrinkMore! It's wonderful to hear you got a pair from the same litter. My wife and I adopted a pair of 6-month olds from the SPCA about 3 years ago. A brother (Caesar) and sister (Cleo). They're Maine Coon/Norweigen Forest mixes.. absolutey gorgeous. We don't feel guilty being away at work because they have one another at the house.

Caesar is on a special diet, for his FLUTD (Feline Lower Urinary Tract Disease), but that's incredibly common in male cats. Thankfully, he's not had a recurrance yet.

Congrats to you, DrinkMore!!!

Thank you! Post some pics in the other thread. Would love to see them. I feel for you with the special diet. My dog had a huge softball size bladder stone because of food crystals or something in the urine. She was on science diet and it was absurd the cost, plus the cost of regular food for the other dogs.

I decided that enough was enough. I switched all the dogs a couple years ago to Blue Buff - all holistic food. The best thing I ever did. It's more expensive than the cheap brands but I don't eat crap, why would I feed it to my animals?

Their coats are shiny, the one dog we had problems with keeping weight on is keeping his weight on now. The food smells good, it's made here in the USA and I don't have to worry about any nasties from china getting in there. I WILL NOT buy any food made overseas. Period. Includes treats. You would be amazed - almost all cat treats are made in china. Along with dog treats too.

Makes me wonder what do Americans do every day for jobs???

That is so sad. Yeah, Caesar has struvite crystals. It's just absolutely terrible. I mean really, imagine the amount of pain we would go through passing a stone the size of a "Nerd" or large grain of sand!!! Caesar's now on "Hill's Prescription Diet c/d" and it seems to be working.

Cleo (the other cat) is now on Wellness Complete Health dry food, and the same wet food I have Caesar on. Wellness is a holistic food as well, and the cats just absolutely love it! It's deboned chicken for crying out loud! Who wouldn't love that!

I'll definitely be posting pictures of them in the other thread when I get home tonight.

With our three (non puppy mill) breeder purchased animals, we went to the SPCA and got a voucher to get them spayed/neutered for a very cheap price. I think it was $20 at the vet to get it done. More people need to go that route if they don't adopt!
