Default Optical vs RCA vs HDMI

Which do you guys USE for sound.

Optical Cable
Red White Cables
HDMI

Given the chance would you re-do your initial setup?

I use:

Red White for sub to receiver
HDMI for TV to Receiver
Optical for PS3 to Receiver

My choices vary depending on the piece being hooked up.
Cable box: Component w/optical
Blu :HDMI
DVD/CD Wired twice: HDMI for DVD play, 6 analog for SACD/CD
Xbox: Component w/optical
Wired to TV: HDMI
To Sub: Single analog
Speakers: 14/4 Twisted pair with Bannana plugs

haha, not quite. HDMI--> Receiver--> TV

A capable receiver has an HDMI input and an output for the tv.

I think the suggestion is to run Hdmi from the PS3 to the receiver. And then HDMI again from the receiver to the TV.
That should give you audio to the receiver using the PS3 Decoder and Video passing out to the TV

i thought that would just give my TV output through the speakers if i went tv to receiver HDMI.. so ur saying i can go HDMI from TV to Receiver and HDMI from ps3 to receiver and my ps3 will show up through my tv?

No, the HDMI cable from the PS3 goes to the receiver. Then reciever then takes the audio portion and amplifies it. Then the receiver sends the video signal out to the tv over HDMI. That way you get HD audio and HD video.

PS3 --> receiver --> tv all connected by HDMI cables.

hopefully this makes it simple. the only cable you need going to your tv is the one from the hdmi out port on your receiver

No, you still don't quite have it. HDMI carries audio and video. The signal you are "daisy chaining" is not just video, its audio and video. You aren't technically daisy chaining either since the reciever has a repeater on it so there is no signal degredation.

HDMI all of the way. Subwoofer is just a composite cable though. Don't know if much more is needed for a subwoofer...
