Default I'm brand new to Home Theater...

So, I'm thinking about starting my home theater set up. Right now I literally have nothing besides my TV, PS3 and my Philips blu-ray player. Now, I'm not made of money and I wasn't really planning on starting a HT this year, but I feel like I'm missing out on some films / shows (especially Band of Brothers!) and was wondering if a HTiB would be a worthwhile investment - at least for the next two years (let's just say) because I don't have the ability to have my system annihilating the neighbors 24/7 so I don't need 7 foot tall Paradigms.

My goal was to reach 100 BD's by the end of 2010 (I have 50 now) so that's what I'm mainly "focusing" on, but I was curious if there were any worthwhile HTiB that would satisfy for now so I at least have something.

I would say my budget would be around $1000 for the full set up.

Thanks in advance!
And I apologize if there's about 64892 threads about this already.

I would strongly suggest to NOT get a HTIB. With your $100 budget you will be able to build a solid system, especially if you look for sales. Have you been able to demo and brands to see what you like?

I have not
I see alot of people liking Paradigm and whatnot, but I have no idea for a price point for this brand. Just starting looking around amazon and threads on here today for general idea of what to get.

Pick up a Denon, Pioneer, or Onkyo receiver for around $300. And grab some nice Polk speakers and a subwoofer when they go on sale at newegg. You should easily come in under $1,000.

Just to give a small Idea that would be nice. I'm sure most of these could be found at a lower price.

This Denon is a favorite
Denon-AVR1910

or you might want to check out

If you want something simple and sounds great then check these

I understand you want more blu's, but your losing half of the experience by not having a nice surround sound system. Part of the blu experience is the lossless audio. I guarantee once you upgrade with the new system, you will watch all of your old ones as if it was for the first time.

I think most of us on here will do that, when we upgrade, we re-watch the blu's again

You could get this 5.0 system from these guys http://www.svsound.com/products-spks-sbs01.cfm. Add a sub from them also that is in your budget of $1000 that would blow away any HTib system out there. Or you could go with a 2.1 system.

Start off small and build up to a 5.1 system.

with a $1,000 budget...get yourself a nice 2.1 system.

Start by getting a receiver, check out the Onkyo SR-607. After that, get yourself some towers and a decent sub.

Do some research, read reviews. Good luck!

I agree - get a receiver that gives you the headroom to grow and then invest in some nice speakers for a 2.1 system. Don't simply rely on reviews, if you are able to: AUDITION the actual speakers.
