I think I remember reading about this a while back, although that might be about the other eletronic companies, which I think Sony Ericson was on top.

It's been this way for the past few years.

Nintendo still hasn't made much progress.

Now to let folks know, these ratings are in regards to the amount of toxic components used in the electronics. The stuff that in about 10 years is going to be the primary 'remnant' of this console war . Majority of the rating difference comes from Sony using fairly safe plastic, and having [and implementing] measures to move away on carbon footprint, etc.
