Default Help With BDP S300 and Denon 2307ci~

I'm new to the site and this may have been posted somewhere here already but I'm not sure I'm searching correctly? Here is my??

I have a Denon 2307ci and a Sony BDP S300 with the 4.3 firmware upgrade. It's hooked up to the Denon via HDMI.

1.) Will the S300 now do True HD?

2.) If it does how do I get my Denon to work in True HD if it is not a True HD rcvr?

I would really like to hear the True HD. If I can't use this set up...is there a comparably priced set up that would work? I have a 7.1 speaker set up... Def Tech LCR 2000 center channel, 2 Def Tech 7002 Tower speakers, 2 Def Tech 1000 and 2 BP 2.1 rear speakers. And a Super Cube 1 sub. I have but not installed yet a Sony Pearl vpl vw50 Projector with a 92" Screen Innovations Visage screen. That will come later next year when I redo my basement into a home theater room.

Thank you to all that reply!!

Yes, the S300 will now internally decode Dolby TrueHD. In your player's setup menu, make sure that the audio is outputting PCM. Your receiver will not say Dolby TrueHD so don't worry about that, because you are still getting the same audio. By pressing the display button on your S300 remote, it will tell you what audio is playing. You should be set to go.

Do I need to set the rcvr to auto or multichannel? Because I had it set up after the firmware upgrade to PCM on the Sony and auto on the rcvr. It said multi channel on it but when I put in a 6.1 or 7.1 BD it didn't do 6.1 or 7.1? When I switched it back to bitstream it then said 6.1 on the rcvr and I could hear the diffeent channels especially the rear surrounds. So it's best to have it on PCM and auto?

Yes, if you are sending audio over HDMI, then leave the receiver on auto. The S300 will not bitstream Dolby TrueHD. Welcome to Blu-ray, by the way.

No you wont need a different player. Sorry for the confusion. The S300 will internally decode TrueHD and send it over HDMI as PCM to your receiver. It wont, however, bitstream TrueHD to your receiver to be decoded there, instead. Dolby TrueHD = TrueHD. The new high def audio is Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD MA.

Edit: Just for the record, there are players that will bitstream the new audio, just not the S300.

Yeah man, that's some pretty good stuff, if you ask me. Just for the awesome info that member Driver King put together, you should check out this thread for a better understanding of the HD audio and a bunch of links to other useful info.

ok..Sorry for all the ?? but just want to clarify...If I'm playing a BD like...Dr Strange..It's in 7.1...will it play (be heard) in 7.1 if it is set to PCM and rcvr to auto (reads multi channel)? I think I had it set this way and I didn't hear the surround backs until I set it to bit stream and rcvr to auto (reads DTS ES C something or other)? Thanx

Since both your BD player and your receiver are incapable of decoding DTS-HD MA, it is being down-mixed. You can read more about it in the audio section of this review.

And should it be on PCM downsampling for both Dolby and DTS? Or should it just be on DTS and Dolby? I'm playing Step Into Liquid ...supposed to be in 7.1 but not coming thru in 7.1? Not even in auto on both?

So the Step into Liquid BD states it's in 7.1 why am I not getting 7.1 to show on my Denon 2307ci?

So I just got an email today from Denon....It stated that the reason I can't get 7.1 True HD from my Sony to my Denon is because the Sony 300 only does 5.1 True HD not 7.1. And My Denon will only do 5.1 True HD not 7.1. So if I want to get 7.1 it has to be bitstreamed and set to auto on both. Looks like I'll be looking for upgrades if I want to get True HD 7.1.
