Default Sony S350 VS. Panasonic BD35

I know there are a ton of posts on these here, but my thread is different. Just looking for a simple poll here. Not sure which one I'd buy yet.

I will be bitstreaming EVERYTHING to my receiver so I DO NOT CARE about audio decoding.

I've gotten just about 50/50 answers on which to buy.

But I'm more or less leaning towards the Sony. However, I've got a Panasonic now and I love it.

I love my S350, Panasonic has always released stand-up players though. Both are supposed to be excellent, flip a coin.

I had the chance to test both players at the same time and I can tell you that they are pretty much even performance wise....load speed, boot up time etc...but.....to my eyes, the Panny just seems more sharper, detailed and with more pop than the Sony. You can't go wrong with either of these players, but my personal recommendation would have to be the Panny. I know that's the one I'm keeping.

I would hate to think that the creator of the technology would be less steller than the panny. I would chose the Sony since i am loyal to the brand and style would match my set up

Footloose,

I also own the BD10AK, and honestly the BD35K looked sharper, not dramatic, but a little better. My wife came in the room and was like, it looks better somehow. Also, CNET said the BD35K when it came to upconversion of DVD's it was not as good as the Oppo, but one of the best BDP's for upconversion they have tested.

Honestly it is a very good player and if you like how your bd10 has performed this one works just as well. Highly Recommended.

I am sure the Sony is a great product as well though.

I just bought a Panny bd35 because I wanted the slo-mo feature, and I wanted to be able to internally decode DTS HD-master for picture-in-picture audio.

I will be updgrading my players soon, and while I have a Sony BDP-S1 in the living room (dedicated home theater) I want to replace it with a Panny BD-35.

Why not replace Sony with Sony? I've read better reviews of the Panny.

I was deciding which ones to buy between the Panasonic 55 and the Sony 550, the big brothers of the ones you are try to choose from. I ended up going with the Panasonic after researching and reading what others said. Really for what you're planning to use it shouldn't make a big difference. I've heard Panasonic is slightly better when it comes to costumer service. Also standard DVD playback and upconversion is supposed to be better with Panasonic. Really if you research a little on technical specs and such you should be able to decide.

Originally I had both player and decided to keep the Panny. Well, not anymore. Both player are very close on PQ, blu or SD DVD which is the most important thing for me, but after having the Panny for a bout 2 weeks I found out that they run very, very hot. And the thing is that they get hot very quickly. I took it back to the store and exchanged it twice and they all ran the same way, very hot. So I decided to go back to the Sony which doesn't even get warm. The Panny is a great machine, but in the long run with that heat it produces, how long does the parts inside will take to break from the constant heat? I'm not willing to find out.....
