I agree that they are hit-and-miss, but I would say their only good ones are Lebowski, Raising Arizona, and Hudsucker Proxy. Then there's a few mediocre ones, and a lot of horrible ones.

I think Aronofsky is solid overall, but lord did I think Black Swan was overrated. I walked out of that theater totally baffled by what all the fuss was about. All style, absolutely zero substance for me.

PT Anderson is one of those cases where I see the talent there, I see why people love his work technically...I just have never really connected with it personally.

I enjoyed True Grit, but Big Lebowski is one of the worst movies I've watched.

I don't think Nolan, Aronofsky and Tarantino are deserving of the 'genius' level that's often thrown at them.

Sam Mendes. His films look nice but strike me as utterly artless.
Edward Zwick. TV movie grade hack.

Oh how I totally disagree. Love the Coens, the only total miss for me was Burn After Reading. Just did nothing for me at all.

The Big Lebowski, I feel, is actually their most brilliant work. Just watched it for probably the 30th time the other night, still hits all the right notes.

Fargo, No Country, A Serious Man, Raising Arizona? All outstanding, IMO.
