Default Any RC Airplane/Helicopter enthusiasts here?

As a kid I always wanted an RC airplane, but never got one. Now that I've grown up a bit (but still a kid in some ways) I've been considering getting myself one.

I've always been somewhat fascinated by flight (including the space program), and just recently started playing X-Plane 9 (really good flight sim alternative to MsFS).

Anyhow, playing the flight sim has now brought back my interest in having some sort of flying RC vehicle. Does anyone here have any experience with using any, and have any recommendations for ones to start with? Any stores or reputable websites that have good prices/models?

I'd prefer using planes, but if it's easier to start with a helicopter (though they may be completely different, I don't know) then I'd do that. No point in spending money on a nice RC plane, only to crash it into the ground.

I've got an indoor mini-helicopter.

Been thinking of taking up the hobby, I've heard helicopters are a little harder to get the hang of. There is a flight sim you can buy where you use an actual RC controller to get the hang of it before taking out your first $100 plane. I'll try and find a link for you.

I like the airplanes that have the rubberband that you wind around. Those are kick ass (I hope I can say that)

An actual RC Helicopter about a meter in length and with an engine powered on gas would cost over a 1000 Euros. I don't deny finding this hobby interesting but a little out of price range.

nitro is used now days... @ $50 about gallon

No helicopter yet, maybe this summer I will get an electric one, you can get a nice one now days for around $300-400

I had a nitro 4X4 1/10 car (HPI) but sold it a few months ago, just did not use it that much & nitro being sooo costly.

I had a gas airplane when I was a kid, but my dad kept crashing it ... he ended up ripping off the engine in one crash. It was a good sized plane with a 8 or 10ft wing spand
