Default Can't play blu-ray discs with Samsung TV after 1.8 update? - FIX: turn off auto 24p

Ever since I updated my firmware I can't play blu-ray DVDs anymore. I have a Samsung 1080p LCD and my PS3 plugged in through HDMI. When I turn the system on everything works fine but as soon as I put a blu-ray disc my tv says there is no signal. It works perfectly fine with standard def DVDs and games though...

Most likely the problem you are having is that you have 1080P/24 set to automatic in the PS3. Turn off 1080P/24 since the Samsung only accepts 1080P/60. This should fix your problem.
There is a incompatibility issue with the Samsung and the PS3 with automatic 1080P/24 detection. When automatic 1080P/24 detection works correctly the PS3 will first try 1080P/24 first, if that does not work then the PS3 will switch to 1080P/60. For some reason you have to turn automatic off with Samsung displays since the PS3 is sending 1080P/24 to it and the Samsung is a 1080P/60 display.Standard DVD's and games are 60HZ and the PS3 is sending 60HZ for those, but the PS3 is trying to send 1080P/24 for BLU-RAY movies, and that is the problem.

HDTV1080p is correct, this worked for me. I checked my settings and figured it out.

Shouldn't make any difference as the PS3 will converse with the display to ascertain compatibility.

Try changing your output setting (on the PS3) to 720p or 1080i only and see if that works. Also check the RGB/Composite setting as it may have shifted to something your TV won't accept.

Basically change every setting until you get an image.

Just to let you know that I too had the same problem (own a Samsung and was not able to view Blu-ray movies after the 1.80 update). I spent close to two hours on the phone with Sony yesterday and they said that they had just been made aware of the problem and the solution was found while I was on the phone. Should have read this forum earlier and would have not wasted two hours on the phone with Sony.
