Default What standard dvd looks the best when its upscaled?

I got a ps3 and it does a great job of upscaling my regular dvds. i think the one that looks the best is either sweeney todd or disturbia or cloverfield

Cloverfield is fun, because it feels like it was supposed to be that way; hand-held and all.

A lot of the animated movies look good upscaled. Cars looks really nice. Not sure what this has to do with blu-ray though.

nehh. Not really a gimmick. It definitely helps with animated films(like owa said while I was typing this). Just watched Nausicaa the other day and switched back and forth between normal upscale and upscale off. You can tell the difference, but the difference between a Blu and SD version is HUGE on most movies. I want some Miyazaki to come out so bad.

I saw Ep III upconverted. Since its filmed entirely digital, it doesn't have any film grain

I recently watched the Aladdin THX DVD upscaled to 1080p by a Sony S350 and it looked amazing. The colors were vibrant and the lines were sharper than I expected from an upscaled DVD. I don't think Blu-ray could of improved the picture quality at all.

Hand drawn animation like Aladdin just doesn't have that much fine detail for a format like Blu-ray to do its magic to. Beauty and the Beast is about the same Disney era so it will be interesting to see how that Blu-ray looks when it is released in 2010.

Braveheart looks pretty good on my PS3, but it's gonna look even better once we finally get the Blu-ray release.

Finding Nemo looks amazing for some reason. My mother was like oh wow this is so clear is it blu-ray? Nope plain 'ol dvd. Lion King looks nice along with Aladdin also.

I thought Transformers looked really upscaled but the blu ray still looks WAY better.

Bram Stokers Dracula (Superbit version) looks very impressive on a good upscaler.

Upscaling is not a gimmick. I have tested side by side on upscalers vs. normal players, and there IS a difference.

However, the difference is not anything close to what Blu-Ray offers.
