Default SONY BDPS5000ES Audio Circuit Components

I've been trying to decide between the SONY BDPS5000ES and the Denon DVD-3800DBCI players. While I can find good information about the Denon audio & video decoders, I can't find similar specs for the SONY. All I can find in the Sony literature is "high quality parts".

Does anyone here know the specifics? Which of the two would you choose? Is there another player in this range of quality that you would recommend I look at?

Thank-you,

Robin

I have the Sony (as you can see). Wonderful in every aspect, no problems, no regrets. The only issue that I know of with the Denon is that the load times are on the slow side (for a premium priced BRDP) and that Denon home electronics are assembled in and use some Chineese made components. Also, the Sony ES has a longer warranty.

I've read that the Sony 5000ES uses the same DAC's as the Denon 3800 (Burr Brown 1796). However, the final output will be different as the Denon does have AL24 upsampling. I'm not sure if the Sony has something similar and what it's called but maybe someone else can chime in.

Another thing to consider. If you are planning to use the multichannel analog outs for audio, then you should probably lean towards the Denon as it has more flexible bass management whereas the Sony has a fixed crossover.

There's a simply unbelievable goldmine of information about this player over here:

Independent Audio Board

An audio board is installed on an audio chassis, which is mounted on the side frame and beam.
Noise from the video lineage circuit and digital lineage circuit on the lower stage is blocked by the shielding effect of the audio chassis. Furthermore, digital lineage noise is blocked by feeding the audio dedicated power by the R-core transformer. Clear audio quality with less jitter is realized by eliminating the noise completely by the structure.

7.1-ch Analog Outputs

2ch & 7.1ch dedicated analog terminals and circuits are adopted. Music material and movie material require different audio qualities. Among music material, there are many 2ch materials such as CDs and clear, rich audio quality is required.

Among movie material, such as Blu-ray Discs, vibrant audio quality by multi-channel surround is required. Then, the 2ch analog terminal at BDP-S5000ES enables very rich audio quality by combining top class DAC PCM1796 and OPA2132 and using selected audio quality parts.

The 7.1ch analog terminal provides sound with good tempo by adopting the combination of DAC PCM1796 and operation amplifier, NJM2114, to listen to 7.1ch LPCM, Dolby True-HD, or DTS-HD Master Audio with vibrant sound.

7.1ch provides the optimum surround environment by using the same circuit pattern and parts for all channels and by feeding out all channel output in the same phase and the same tone of sound.

Capacitor for Audio Quality

A constant-voltage circuit, which regulates output from the R-core transformer, is realized by using an audio quality electrolytic capacitor that has experience in audio-visual amplifier of the ES series or the SACD player. The circuit feeds stable power to each analog audio circuit.
A newly developed film capacitor is adopted that comprises LPF for analog 2ch output. Rich audio quality is recaptured at the mid to high frequency range.
