I'm not sure there's been a better dramatic actor on Network TV than Andre Braugher. He could do more with a line of dialogue than anyone I can think of. He was riveting on NBC's Homicide: Life on the Street; you couldn't take your eyes off him, and he should have won an Emmy every year he was on that show. There was a great interview on Fresh Air where he talked about how he would dissect every line in the script to figure out what the most important idea was that he was to get across.
I followed him to Gideon's Crossing on ABC where he got to do several monologues as the top doctor at a teaching hospital. It was cancelled too soon. Then to Thief on FX. I didn't start watching House till season 6 when I found out he was a guest star. It was fascinating to watch him learn how to do comedy ON THE JOB on Men of a Certain Age. And by the time he got to Brooklyn Nine-Nine, he had mastered that too. I'm sorry to see him go. I'm grateful for what he's left behind. |
