Default The Day the Earth Stood Still re-make master thread

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Day...282008_film%29

I didn't realize they were re-making this classic movie. 20th Century Fox has the rights so this will be on blu-ray for sure, well, by the time this comes out every studio will be blu-ray for sure

Who is excited about this movie! I am, I absolutely loved the original. I hope it lives up to expectations.

Keenu Reeves is playing Klaatu, funny how close their names look

Cool! I'm not a big Keanu fan, but there are worse choices.

John Cleese is going to be in it as well apparently...

I'm not sure about this re-make, the originally is an amazing classic.

I will most likely just treat them as completely separate movies and not judge one against the other.

I read a few days ago that John Cleese was cast in the role of Dr. Barnhardt.

I'm not overly excited about a remake because I LOVE the original, but it will be interesting to see what changes are made.

Awesome. I'm a model robot buiilder and have a few "Gorts". I hope they do a double release of the old and new in one blu-ray. Kill two Klatu's with one stone!

Forbidden Planet is such a timeless classic I am not sure they should muck with that one. Would love it on BD, naturally.

It would be really cool if they used PiP to show the new and old movies side by side, or at least important parts or the movies side by side. and I agree it would be great to get a double release, the DVD actually looks quite impressive upscaled.

PIP? You are one of THEM... aren't you. .......

Just got my Panasonic DMR-EZ47VK dvd / vcr dual recorder last week. It does upconversion over HDMI. While I am sure it is not up to snuff with other upconversion players, it does look nicer on my 26" 720p Vizio. I was running 8 cables to get dvd and vcr to play with my old player. I was using component cable. Now I use one HDMI cable which also makes that much more difference in the color I am see with dvd. I spot watched parts of TRON and it was great. Took on a whole new glow.

I want to get around to watching my remaining DVD's upconverted... The Day the Earth Stood Still is definately on the list.

Yeah, I have to agree Keanu might not have the character class of Michael Renny portraying Klatu. But hey, this is Hollywood of today. At least they are going with a "professional" actor and not one of those worthless reality show "celebrities".

It would be better if they just put the original on blu-ray. Keenu Reeves? Ugh.

yes and no. i think its stupid when its just the director talking about the movie or behind the scenes crap, but PiP can be very cool if utilized properly, no movie has done this yet though. 30 days of Night looks like it could be cool.

Default Official: The Day the Earth Stood Still Re-make thread

As a young child I fondly remember the original. I was always scared of Gort. But I am looking forward to a new remake. Hopefully some fresh ideas may be added without losing too much of the original message of this important film. Definitely one worth looking out for.

They better not mess up Gort the way they screwed with the Lost in Space Robot. He went from the chubby bubble headed booby to a big blu freak, and then to a somewhat familiar shortie. Heartless Philistines.

Hey, how about a muscle chest on Gort?

Day The Earth Stood Still is a classic and I have in on dvd. It is one of those movies that you never tire of. Hopefully the remake will remain true to its origins and not go bananas with guns a blazing etc. At least Reeves is a somebody. We could be stuck with some surviver winner as Klaatu. One last thing. I would love to get War of the Worlds even with Tom in it. Dreamworks will one day bless us with blu.
