I'm in the market for one of these and, by average sale pricing, the S7200 is usually about $150 more.
The tallboy speakers are nice but not a necessity. I'm curious about the video and audio upscaling features, and if they're worth the extra dough. Although I'm slowly converting to blu, I still have 1200+ DVDs. In the room I plan to use the HTiB, I'm currently using a PS3 as my player. I know it upscales DVDs video but unsure about the audio. Furthermore, what sites should I be cruising for the best deals on either HTiB and lowest prices you've seen. Please share your thoughts without telling me to build my own system. Thanks. |

Oh, so I should just let it pass through then anyways? I guess it kinda defeats the point of getting the 7200. Are there other features that I'm missing that make it worth the extra money?

That's not what I'm saying. There is no such thing as audio upconversion. Audio is audio. Using a PS3, you'll be able to enjoy HD audio with either setup. DVDs will be upconverted just fine on the PS3 and you'll be able to enjoy the standard 5.1 soundtracks. Unless the 7200 offers something more for you other than the upscaling, I would save some $$ and stick with the 6200, as the PS3 is a decent DVD upscaler.

The main difference between the 2 is the receiver and the mounted fronts. The 7200 uses the better HT-RC160 (Onkyo 607) and the 6200 uses the HT-R670 (Onkyo 507?). The 6200 can be purchased refurbed from Accessories for Less from E-Bay using Bing for around $480 and the cheapest I've seen the 7200 is $680. So is the upgrade in receiver and mounted fronts worth $200 to you? I think the 6200 is the better deal right now.
Just to add to your options and confusion look through these 2 threads: ![]() https://forum.blu-ray.com/home-theat...challenge.html https://forum.blu-ray.com/home-theat...nal-build.html |
