Default X-files: I want to believe... No sound

I have an onkyo 605 receiver hooked up to a PS3 and I have never had any problems with a blu-ray. Any ideas as to why this may be happening? The disc seems glitchy as it played the entire first scene before it went to the menu...

Same thing happened to me with PS3 and 705, I stopped it and hit play and it then worked.

Let me guess--
It happened right after the "letter" from Chris Carter about the 12/9 BD-Live event?

Threw off my speakers, too, but a quick stop-and-start, and it was back on again.
(In all its crabby, depressing, pretentious, first-one-was-better glory.)

Try asking in the other thread if you haven't already where you have been discussing this movie. I don't have the Sammy 1200 but I would not be surprised if you will need an upgrade to play it.

i will. i am thinking that my player is now a brick and useless. it wouldn't play any movies last night and would tell me that they couldn't be played. i am going to talk to samsung and see what it would take to fix it, but i am thinking it might be easier to buy another one. i can't afford to do that though, unless it is under $200. i posted a thread here. sorry for derailing the thread.

Default won't play at all

X-files "I want to Believe" won't play at all on my PC using Cyberlink PowerDVD (for HD). All other blu-ray movies have played fine so far.

I suspect there's new encryption that the software can't decode. "I want to believe" the movie will play.

Anybody else unable to play the movie?

Maybe this will help from the Wanted thread:

Yep...I had exactly the same problem you describe on my Dell XPS 1530, which has a Matshita slot drive combo BD/DVD/CD drive. I was trying to play the Wanted BD yesterday using Dell's Media Direct software without any luck. I spent 2 hours on the phone with Dell support yesterday without any progress or resolution.

My wife picked up 2 other BD's last night: Hancock and Prince Caspian. Interestingly, it could play Hancock without any problem at all, but couldn't play Prince Caspian. I'm thinking that since Wanted and Caspian just came out, maybe there is some new video codec (not sure if that is the right word) or encryption or something on these brand new releases that Media Direct is lacking or can not handle. Of course, Dell does not have a fix or upgrade for it yet...and from my dealings with the tech yesterday the possibility of a problem with the software is not even on their radar screen.

So today I downloaded and installed ArcSoft's Total Media Theater and guess what...problem solved. I can view all 3 BDs wothout any problem at all. Its too bad the Dell software is so glitchy.

Hope that helps.

Fight The Future played fine on my fully updated PS3 but I had a similar problem as the original poster on I Want To Believe. After loading for a few seconds it actually went to a scene 4 minutes into the movie and then a letter about BD-Live popped up on-screen. When I got back to the menu everything was playing fine except I had absolutely no sound. The solution that worked for me was stopping the disc and then playing it again from the beginning. This time I got full sound and everything played fine.

I really like the job they have done on these two discs. I Want To Believe looks better in terms of picture quality than the first one and I appreciated the storyline more after seeing it again.

also the samsung bd-p1200 needs a firmware update to be able to play i want to believe. otherwise the movie will not play at all.

Thanks for the info robertc88.

I was on the verge of buying the Arcsoft software player for $70. But then I realized that is $70 I could put toward buying an actual stand-alone blu ray player. So... maybe I'll just wait, and for now I'll watch the movie on old-fashioned DVD.

The "scene 4 minutes into the movie" was PART of the letter forced upon viewers during their second pre-12/9 viewing, so as not to spoil first-time viewers.
(Y'know, it sets up the event announcement with the characters saying "It's here, it's here!", digging up the
[Show spoiler]arm
, and they segue into Carter telling you about the clue-hunting game that's almost "here".
Get it?--Hehehehhhh... )

Thankfully, it'll be over after Monday, unless the BD-Live forces more game "updates" upon unsuspecting viewers--
But as I was only renting it off of Netflix, who cares?

tell us how you really feel. anyway, sorry you didn't like i want to believe. i think it's a movie that unfairly gets ragged on. i don't see anything depressing or pretentious about it. in fact the show itself was more depressing in a lot of ways. but that's why i love it. it's part of the x-files charm.
