20th Century Fox 20th Century Fox Blu-ray TV shows?

Most shows I own on BD are Fox including The League, The Simpsons, Modern Family, and It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia and I can't believe they are just stopping blu-ray releases for these shows. I don't mind getting DVD releases for shows when there has never been a blu-ray option but for shows that have most if not all of their other seasons on blu-ray is a different story. Are sales so bad that they just stopped ?

There are other threads here about this, but in short, the answer is yes: sales have been too weak for Fox to want to continue. Same applies to Bones and Glee. It's also why some shows are now manufacture-on-demand DVDs instead of pressed (Raising Hope, Last Man Standing, Louie, Glades, Killing, American Dad, Bob's Burgers, Wilfred..).

I haven't heard anything about The Simpsons not continuing, though. S17 for that hasn't been announced for DVD or Blu yet, so it's not yet clear whether it's necessary to worry for that show.

Will other studios follow suit? Think this will translate to studios not putting movies out on BD?

I can live with no tv on BD if and only if the transfer to DVD is sharp. For older shows, they still have to so some remastering work. If it's going to look like a DVD from 2000, I will not be happy.

What exactly is on demand DVD? Do they have boxes and cases that look professionally made? Are the discs professionally made with artwork or do they look like someone burned a movie on their computer's DVD drive and printed out a cover on their printer?

Where is the original thread? This is the first I'm hearing of this and it's sad. I was so hopeful that they would release The X-Files on Blu-ray.

I couldn't find a thread on the subject which is why I started this one. They did release Sleepy Hollow on BD which made me think that maybe it only affected comedies however Bones is DVD only too so who knows.

I guess there's not a generic thread here (though there is at some other forums) so apologies for misleading - but The League, IASIP and Glee threads discuss it: https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=146677, https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=244223, https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=247119

For what it's worth, I'm not sure this decision has much (negative) bearing on something like The X Files, as genre/fantasy/sci-fi shows with dedicated fanbases still sell well.

Yeah, first i'm hearing of it now. Has there been word on this yet? Hopefully this is bollocks and that they are planning to release Buffy and X-Files on blu ray.

To be honest, I find this hard to believe. Not saying it's NOT true, just hard to accept. But then again, I'm seeing several NEW shows NOT getting the bluray treatment, like TEEN WOLF, this is a very popular show for MTV and yet it remains on DVD only.

As for Demand only, I can see that. There are so many shows with limited fans that would actually collect the seasons, so they actually might save money by releasing it this way, of course, it COULD mean that our price for them might be slightly higher.

I buy the old TV show ALICE like this and it's about $30 per season. It comes packaged professionally with decent cover art, just nothing special.

But TV shows like 'Once Upon A Time'....I hope they don't stop releasing this on bluray, even though I seem to be the ONLY person in my town to buy one from our local small-town Walmart. Every time I go in there, I notice how many they have left, and they aren't moving. (sigh)

Fox sounds fxxking stupid, I get that blu ray might make enough but DVD can't be doing that much better or just cut half the blu ray into limited quantities

You order and Amazon (or WB archive, or whoever) make you a copy. They come boxed, with professional artwork (though print quality can vary) and with labelled but plain-ish discs.

Are these, or the WB Archive discs, real pressed BDs or are the crappy BD-Rs (pressed vs burnt)?

Warner Archive blu-rays are real blu-rays, same as if they were retail releases.

The DVD's are where they do the "pressed" discs. I think that is more on a release by release basis - some of them are still real DVD's (at least for the initial print run).

Basically with blu-ray, so far there is NO CHANCE or receiving a BD-R, you will always get a real disc from Warner Archives.

Guess it's down to recording the digital stream from TV!

Even with compression issues ( ), I'd still take that over SD.

I'll download the HD versions any way I can, and then buy the DVD so my conscience will be clear.

It may be that the only way to stop Fox is to drive DVDs out of business. Somehow we must encourage the demise of DVD, causing BluRay to be the only kind of disc that is available.

…I hope Wilfred seasons 3 and 4 are released on BluRay is some other country, if America is too cheap to do it.

it does indeed look like a new policy. Wilfred seasons 1 and 2 were on BluRay. Season 3 is a DVD-R.

Yeah...that wouldn't work. Then you will end up with zero physical options to purchase.

I'm not surprised by this and expect it to continue. In the end, a ton of us here are just as proactive on driving content towards streaming as the studios. Everyone complains about pricing and the general expectation here is that catalog titles are worth $5 and tv seasons need to be $15 maybe $20 tops. And then everyone is super surprised when the studios started half assing catalog releases and not putting many out. TV was inevitably next.

I hope if anything, Fox releases them through their MoD program. I know that's how they released Louie S3 on DVD. Also preferably pressed discs of course, no BD-R bs.
