lol

Somehow, HD-DVD and the word "clearance" go together perfectly.

Yea, there are a few forums about this (I started one upon seeing no HD-DVD demos to counter the BD ones at a Best Buy); quite a few stores are making the choice for us, as another member said. They can read the writing on the wall, but Toshiba and Universal can't. Oh well, pretty soon they'll run right into it.

The HD-A2 was the only HD DVD model I could find displayed at the Best Buy in Little Rock recently, but there were several of them. The software display for both is about equal, but Sony and Samsung both have end of isle displays for their hardware so Best Buy prominently highlights Blu-ray. With the rumors of the $200 HD DVD players showing up at Wal-Mart soon, we will know if the next HD DVD push will happen or be a success within a few months. Based on conversations with friends and family before being informed by me, the general population either knows nothing or so little to be the equivalent of nothing about both formats.

At Sears Toshiba just sent us our first demo disc (How long has HDDVD been out????? Sony sent us our demo equipment in October, though we didn't receive the player until a couple of days before its Nov. release). Unfortunately for them, it is sitting in a corner on a closeout tv. We do have two nice BluRay displays right in front, though!

Like 'em or not: When you have major retailers like BB and Sears making these kinds of decisions it tells you what's selling vs. what isn't, despite the FUD and propoganda floating around on the Internet from MS types.

HD-DVD simply isn't selling because it's garbage, at least on the hardware side. The name Toshiba does not make people run down to the stores with their wallets whipped out and drool coming out of their mouths in eager anticipation. If anything, it's the exact opposite.

Fry's in Sunnyvale now has no HD DVD demonstration.

They took it down and replaced it with a PS3 pod.

They had also taken down the BD display monitor, though I suspect they are going to swap the BD and PS3 displays over.

They still had the giant BD display at the front of the store using the LG player (so I guess they can promote HD DVD with it also though I have not seen any sign of that so far).

I was at Sears today and they had the 1st Toshiba HD-DVD player on clearance for 99.93 but it was the floor model without parts...

plus they had a small setup with the newer Toshiba that you can barely even find...it was on sale for 399.99 last week I think..

now onto BD...

they have a big Sony BD display with a sony 1080p TV...AND a Samsung setup with the new Samsung player and a new samsung 1080p flat-panel TV....

I'm in Japan and was in a "Hard Off" store (a second hand store) and there were a few HD-DVD players. I will go again next week to take a picture.

Even the military exchanges are showing Blu-Ray the love...our NEX here in Norfolk has a Blu-Ray display and about 6 rows of Blu-Ray movies on the rack. HD-DVD...no display and about 2 rows of movies.

Frys here in atlanta is starting to show some bias towards bluray. Their HDDVD sections are about the same size of the blu-rays but the blu-ray section is more denseley packed. I guess they won't sacrifice DVD space quite yet. Also on the outside aisle(the one more visible to people not particularly looking for movies, has a plasma tv showing off happy feet on blu-ray along with a bunch of other titles for sale right underneath it !
