Default Do such things as 'videophile' quality televisions exist?

I'm sure we all know of Sony, Samsung, Pioneer, and Panasonic - but do there exist high-end television manufacturers, such as there is with high-end speakers?

I mean, everyone knows of Klipsch and Polk, but how many know of Dahlquist and Sonus Faber? Does this phenomenon occur with televisions? Are there manufacturers out there I've never even heard of?

Not that I'm interested...just curious.

I have never seen them , but it is supposed to be top notch stuff. I think the Pioneer Elite should be considered "videophile" quality as well.

Sorry guys... but the term "videophile" just "sounds" perverse.

Define "videophile". While you're at it, define "audiophile". It gets kind of frustrating with people saying "I'm no audiophile or anything but..." or "I'm not videophile or anything but..." If you call yourself a videophile and think your 13" black and white TV is the world's best TV and you know what you're talking about, well... Who's to say they're wrong? (All rhetorical questions by the way)

Yes I do (I think ). That is a good question. I'd say yes, to my definition.

I see Runco is just like Pioneer in not disclosing contrast ratios. I've never heard of them! Must be strictly non-mainstream.

I was going to say Runco too.

If you have a custom installer near you they may have Runco sets in the show room.

I have a CRT Front Projector which I consider to be a videophile projector. When CRT FP were more popular Runco would re-badge various models and add some tweaks. I think most of what they still sell is other products re-badged and tweaked.

The Runco website as no price listing. I bet these are in the category of if you have to ask for the price you cannot afford it?

Check these projectors...

http://www.curtpalme.com/CRTforSale_...rformance.shtm

Runco re-badged NEC and Zenith and Barco projector with mods for Home Theater.

I think they still do this with newer technologies. (Still buy from mainstream vendors and do a few mods.)

Anyway... I would say every set on that page is videophile quality and all of them sold for over 20K when new. The G90 still sells for close to 10K in good shape and retails for 30K (though no one will still pay retail for them... I don't think any new in the box units still exist.)

heck, I bet it's closer to 500 lbs. The size of the display doesn't make it the "best of the best" though......

There's a B&O store on Newberry street where you can buy their televisions..... but side-by-side, I'd take a Pioneer Kuro at half the cost over one of theirs any-day-of-the-week.......

They are specialized and also make a line of plasma's specifically for those in places like Denver (altitude)

I think the distributors/dealers have maximum ranges they can work with, so they don't list an MSRP.

I'm afraid nothing Band & Olufson makes is high end, only pretentious.

I was just going to mention Barco - they sell a Quad LCD, no price listed.
http://www.barco.com/corporate/en/pr...asp?gennr=1831

It requires two 1920x2160 DVI inputs.
Color adjustment 5600, 6500, 7500, 8500 and 9300K
