Porn industry seeks federal bailout

Another major American industry is asking for assistance as the global financial crisis continues: Hustler publisher Larry Flynt and Girls Gone Wild CEO Joe Francis said Wednesday they will request that Congress allocate $5 billion for a bailout of the adult entertainment industry.

“The take here is that everyone and their mother want to be bailed out from the banks to the big three,” said Owen Moogan, spokesman for Larry Flynt. “The porn industry has been hurt by the downturn like everyone else and they are going to ask for the $5 billion. Is it the most serious thing in the world? Is it going to make the lives of Americans better if it happens? It is not for them to determine.”

Now isn't that something?

This is one industry the world would be better without. I vote not to bail out the porn industry. There are just some things the world is better without.

I doubt they need to be bailed out and are probably making quite a bit of money. I think they are just trying to make a point. Does anyone really think the porn industry could go bankrupt? Individual companies maybe, but not the whole industry.

Of course they are trying to make a point.
The government is giving more than 500 billion to crooked banks and the Wall Street alone! Why should they not get a piece of that?

There is no bailout necessary at this time, but the industry is hurting, pretty much like any other business!

This is one industry the world would be better without.

Why is that?

It's as much entertainment as renting / buying regular movies, just for adults exclusively!

I am from within the industry and let me tell you that everything is run pretty much like a regular business. Taxes have to paid, paperwork needs to be filed, we get health insurance and have 401ks...

That is mostly due to the fact that DVD sales are dying.
There is more and more video on demand or tube sites out there that are becoming quite popular. Most adult material will be exclusively digital in a few years... sucks but that's the way it heading!

Moral and religious reasons. I don't see how it can be seen as entertainment, others may disagree, but I would feel dirty while watching it. It's not the right thing to do.

I do understand moral or religious reasons. But at least this is something you can chose to watch/enjoy. As far as the "entertainment value" goes, I might as well say that going to a shooting range or hunting animals for fun etc is not entertainment either.

But it's all choices! No one has to do any of these things, but we choose to, one or another way.

Hmm, I've worked in a strip club before, so going to have to agree to disagree with your viewpoint. One thought to leave you with though, if it's two consenting adults that are doing something legal, then there are more important things to worry about. They are being paid for something they would do anyway, it truly is a job to be jealous of.

I think everyone can agree that they are all evils of the world, that we need to get rid of or at least decrease as much as possible. I find pornography to be something that quite frankly is very immoral. Let's watch adults get paid to have sex with each other and then self gratify ourselves. There's nothing pleasurable about that to me, I'm getting married in a few months, I don't even know the last time I had to go that road to uh, take care of some things down below. I'm not trying to judge anyone who chooses to view pornography, I'm just trying to explain how I see things. I don't think it's something we need, we'd be better off without it.
