Default Does Blu-ray give Sound Designers more options and Freedom in film sound?

I’m a student in the field of Digital Audio Production. I am in a class called Current Issues in Mass Media. A topic I’m interested in is how Blu-ray might be affecting the sound design in major films. I am interested in a short interview with anyone who might have some experience dealing with this. Pretty much all I need to know for the class is if there are more opportunities in the sound design due to Blu-ray but any other info on the subject would also be welcome. Thanks a lot.

I bet you might get an answer from Sir Terrence, our resident audio insider who works at Disney. Try his insider thread...

(Warning, I have absolutly no idea what I'm talking about but I will do my best) Does Blu-ray give Sound Designers more options and Freedom in film sound? I doubt it because movies are shown in cinemas so I would think that the sound is created to be shown in your local cinema and not your home. I doubt the sound designer would not put somthing into the soundtrack because it couldn't be fully rendered at home.

Saying what I just said though, the increased capacity of Blu ray has allowed studio's to include uncompressed and lossless tracks. Which get's the home viewer the closest to what the sound designer actually intended the cinema goers to hear.

Does that make any sence? I'm not sure.
