Do trophies make you want to purchase a game you normally wouldn't? - Blu-ray Forum

I am addicted to collecting trophies. Not only that, but I strive to get platinums.

With all the sales on anything from mediocre to above-average games going on lately, have you been tempted to buy a game you wouldn't normally purchase based on the fact that they have trophy support?

I haven't really jumped on any of the good deals lately (like cheap Prince of Persia on Amazon), but have you? Even if it wasn't on sale and you were on the fence, would you buy a game that's gotten mediocre reviews based on the fact that the trophies exist and/or may be easy to obtain?

No. It just gives me some incentive to play it again/differently.

I haven't bought a game because of trophies but I have bought a game on the PS3 instead of Xbox 360 because of trophies.

Nah, I'll pass. Trophy's are cool collecting and all, but not worth making me buy it over a game even if it was cheap. I.E. let's say Haze had it and it was on sale for $10. I'll still pass.

I might play a game more once i have it, but i wont rent or buy just because of that.

Kinda I guess for more incentive to play through again. Before I would pick up 360 game cause of achievments over a PS3 game before Trophies, now I don't worry. I wish all the games had Trophy support.

I don't decide what games to get based on trophies. I just figure what kind of game is interesting to me and wait for a major price drop before buying. Other than that, I try demos first to see if it's worth it to buy.

+1 I will not go buy a game for the trophies, but it does increase the replay value of a game

I do enjoy when a game I buy happens to have trophies, but I won't really care if it doesn't.

Well seeing as how all games are supposed to have trophies in 2009 ... then yeah, the games I buy that are older games I like them to have trophies ... to me its fun trying to get them, but I also dont obcess on getting a trophy that I know would take me days to get ...

I like the playfire trophy card and I link it in my sig at other forums.

On the other hand, it doesnt stop me from buying games like MGS4 either tho. It just entices me to buy games that arent as great if they are cheap ... as of late I was trying to get a little game collection going on.

The most trophies will do is make me replay a game I have. I'll never buy one just for the trophies, because I don't even care enough to try to earn them all in the games I already own.

I won't buy a game just cause it has trophies in it, but I have been known to play a game longer, or several times, just to unlock the trophies in them.
I am know on my 3rd time around with Uncharted. Have to get that Platinum trophy!

Actually I bought Dead Space primarily because of the good feedback people were giving it, but if it didn't have trophies I would've not bought it on that $30 BF deal.

I would not buy crappy games just because of trophies though.

They've never been a dealmaker for me, but lack of them has been a dealbreaker (looking at you, Valkyria Chronicles).

Lack of them also made me buy most multi-platform games on 360, but now that both consoles have a similar mechanism, I'm picking up more of them on the PS3.

That's the reason I hadn't bought Fallout 3 for $40 on BF, but now that they patched it, I'm looking at it again....
