Default Christmas Present - help me

Hey folks,

seems i'm trying to figure out what I want for christmas... and really the only things I can think of, are receiver/speakers!

I'm thinking that a speaker setup is going to cost too much for my christmas present... but my eventual wish-list is Polk Monitor 60/40/CS2

Receivers seem to be in the price range (~$300)

Opinions on the following 3 would be greatly appreciated:

Yamaha HTR-6130B

Yamaha HTR-6140B

Sony STRDG 720

Next query is regarding my current setup - a 5 year old JVC HTIB receiver. for the time being, until I figure out my speakers - is it safe for the receiver to use the HTIB speakers with any of those new receivers? I'm not too concerned if I blow out a speaker (hey if they do... i have to buy new ones right?) but can this cause any damage to the new receiver?

Thanks very much
Brendon

Hey folks - I actually just went back there (behind the receiver)... and found that the speakers are 8 ohm/100watts each.

The receivers above are all 6 ohm capable - will the receiver's hurt those little cube speakers?

I'd actually look at this receiver and I would buy those Polk speakers here.

You should be fine with your speakers, as long as you have the crossover set and don't crank it too ridiculously loud.

Thanks alot for the help DriverKing... definately added the 606 to the wish-list... I haven't found any place that'll ship to Canada before - hopefully the duties won't be too outrageous.

I'm not sure If the Monitors will be feasable - the fiance told me this weekend that big towers will be unacceptable in the living room... *sigh* I'll just plug in the cheapo JVC speaks for now... when I get some most cash... maybe something new.

Thanks.

Onkyo simply "refurbished" them, certified them with a warantee, and sent them back out.

Thanks alot for the help Driver - the Fiance told me yesterday though that she doesn't want to buy a refurb christmas gift. And I can't find any online retailers who'll ship to Canada for less than $600 (plus any import duties) I'm not too bothered, I found a High Current Yamaha (HTR 6160) here in Calgary that I told her about.

My prediction (assuming that it is indeed my christmas present):

The nightmare before christmas will blow the speakers, and I'll have to go out and buy a new set boxing day

Time to go over to the speaker forum and get some opinions on them!

Well.. just as an update:

My Fiance and I were in the kitchen yesterday afternoon doing some christmas baking when the doorbell wrang.

Canada post showed up with a big brown box that I wasn't supposed to see (although, of course as the one who wasn't covered in flower who went to open the door, i did)....

Long story short:

I've got a Yamaha HTR6160 sitting under the tree waiting until Thursday for me!!

Thanks for the help/advice everyone!!!
