Default POLL: GHWT Vs. RB2, Instruments Only!

Ok Guys, as some of you may know, im a fan of GH over RB because i really only play the instruments, but i think im going to take the plunge and buy the instruments and then both games. Question is, with no fanboy stuff, which equipment set is better? Meaning, stronger, wont break, last longer, be able to jump off the couch and rock that sucker type equipment. Very curious and hear different things so I wanna know what you guys think.

i bought into the GHWT guitar bundle and was dissapointed that my guitar was broken on arrival... i returned it for another, by the time i was half way through the single player guitar career on Hard i had a broken strum. my 30 day policy is defunked from BBUY cause it took me so long to get around to playing it... now i have a broken guitar i dont know what to do with. however a friend of mine has the RB2 guitar and i instantly regret paying the extra 40 for this crap. touch pad sucks too.

I bought the GHWT guitar bundle and sold the guitar after using it once. After playing with the RB strat I got use to sliding my fingers up and down the neck. I could not do this is the GH guitar as the buttons are raised. I never even tried out the touch pad.

Hmmnn, well i dont have a problem doing that since I own the guitar hero guitar from GH3 and have about 98% done on hard. But like the other poster said, if they are breaking, then thats no good.

I was going to answer this but since I've never tried an actual working GH:WT drumset I can't tell how it would be theoretically.

thinking of selling it to game stop (you cant tell its broken just by trying out the strum, and it still somewhat works while playing. it just registers more than one strum sometimes...) and getting the RB2 guitar. or saying screw it and purchase the GH3 Les Paul...

i just recently bought rb 2 in the toys r us deal. and i've had ghwt since it came out. i think the instuments are way higher quality in ghwt. but i like the rb2 game better. therefore, i'm selling ghwt. i wish rb2 had the same insturments as ghwt. they are by far better quality and anyone who doesn't agree is just a fanboy. it's very obvious the build of the guitar between the 2.

Very Interesting. This is the info that I am looking for since I plan on buying both games anyways. Thank for the info

the thing is eveyone has had instrument problems at some point but i think if both ghwt and rb2 intruments are both working the way they are supposed to GHWT instuments are alot better..

Note after playing rockband 2 alot i do like rockband better but i still like the ghwt instruments better

I've tried about 7 GH:WT drumsets and have yet to come across one that works. Could be coincidence, but I'm starting to doubt it.

Even most local Best Buy kiosks swapped out the GH:WT drums for Rock band drums on their GH:WT kiosks because the GHWT versions no longer worked. /shrug.

My wife works at one of the Targets down here in FL, and she says the return rate on the GHWT bundles has been way higher than the RB2 bundles. Not scientific by any means, and some folks might be returning them simply due to them rethinking their impulse buys but figured I'd throw that in.

I'm not talking sensitivity, I'm talking doesn't work period.

And my experience is far from rare. The drum tuner was in no way the be-all/end-all fixer for GH:WT drums.

Best guitar: GHWT Touch-Guitar
Best drums: Rock Band 2 Premium Ion Drum Rocker (though I still rate the RB2 stock drums higher than the GHWT drums for reliability and playability).

Both GHWT instruments have quality control issues, but if you can find a working set, they're pretty good.

So it sounds like the GHWT instruments work good, when they work? So if I want a set that WILL work, then i should go with RB? What exactly doesnt work on the GHWT Drums? sensitivity issues? Ive seen broken cymbols at my local BB...

Yes, both the guitar and drums work great... when they work.

Sadly, the answer to this is also yes.

I have one friend who had to RMA his GHWT guitar twice, another whose strum bar keeps double-strumming. I've heard many reports of problems with the touch-strip, too, particularly in reference to the two ends (corresponding to the red and orange extremes) being either inconsistent or completely nonfunctional.

The main issues with the drums are dysfunctional red tom pads and broken cymbals I've heard about. And let's not get into the whole velocity sensitivity issue... lots of people having problems with that, though the sensitivity tuning kit seems to fix some of them.

On a personal level, my main concern with the GHWT drums are the two cymbals. They are just not very sturdy, and I can't imagine them seeing extended use without eventually breaking or losing accuracy, as they vibrate like mad when struck, even when properly anchored to the base. Unlike the optional RB2 cymbals, you can't easily replace them, and more to the point, you can't play without them.

The GHWT guitar I have fewer issues with. It seems like a solid build all around. I'm still not much of a fan of the raised fret buttons, but that's a personal quirk and not a tangible negative. The strum bar feels good, too. The touch-strip is pretty gimmicky, but it's no worse than the solo fret buttons on the RB stratocasters.
