Generally speaking, No. This is not a good home theater system. It does not decode lossless and I am sure that the speakers are of poor quality. Everyone on here is going to tell you save up and buy separates.

The best piece of advice I can give you this:

Stay away! Far away from this! It's a 5-minute solution and good money thrown out the window.

Can you afford a little more? If so, get a nice A/V receiver and 2 Front speakers to start you off. There's a few guys on here that can recommend such a set-up for you, and they'll be along in just a sec.

Im not really a fan of it. Do you have a bluray already? if you do it likely already upconverts. If you dont then get one first. I personaly dont like combo dvd/theater packages.

If you're looking for something to enjoy the high def experience, I'd pass on this. If you want something to watch DVD's with, sure, go for it. But I assume your a HD guy since you're on bluray.com.

This is the unfortunate fact that confronts almost every HTIB owner!

Lerk- definately don't buy... use that money, or a little more if you can swing it, and buy a receiver and a couple speakers and slowly build over time...

That's a bit of an exageration. I went through a couple of HTiB's before I built my own HT system. I kept each HTiB in service in my main room for a couple of years before I'd move it to a different room and get a better one. Now I have my nice HT in my living room, but I also have surround sound in my gameroom, my bedroom, and I had enough things left over to set up a surround sound system at my mom's house when she bought her first hdtv. Each system taught me a little bit more about how to use surround sound, speaker positioning, what kind of sound I was looking for..... etc.

I'll never view my HTiB's as a waste of money, but will always view them as learning experiences.

Respectfully, I don't think my statement is an exageration at all. It read almost not every HTIB owner. I'm glad in yours case it worked out well for you.

I think everyone wants to upgrade constantly.... no matter what kind of system you have; you always want something a little better. I'm just saying maybe the whole MOST and 4 months part might be a bit of an overstatement. I'm not picking a fight. I'm just saying that some HTiB's can be a pretty fine starting place for people who want to experience the whole surround sound effect now without having to patiently wait to build piece by piece. If you get the right HTiB..... you can replace speakers as you can afford it... then when you have all the speakers replaced..... upgrade the receiver. When you are done.... you have a complete second setup for a bedroom or gameroom or to sell and recoup some money.

Point taken! I'll grant you that!

And I know you didn't want a fight! I didn't either! Just a healthy discussion or interpretation!

Are you looking strictly new? If not try CL or ebay. I've gotten some good deals on separates for the same price as this off CL. And...If you wait until after xmas there will be a glut of them. But certainly stay away from anything that doesn't have a digital input. You won't be able to get any kind of true surround sound without it.
