Default HDMI vs. Optical question

Hey all. Um I was wondering, I have my PS3 hooked up via optical for sounds (video is HDMI) And I know that PS3 decodes all the audio which is kinda good but bad at the same time. (eventualy I will be getting the Onkyo tx-sr805 ) My question is this how much of a difference is there sound wise between HDMI vs optical, will I notice a huge difference or just a tiny one. Or better yet is there something that I can expect to hear that I wouldn't normaly.

I'm just kinda worried that I won't hear any difference.
I already warned( ) my wife that the speakers I get will be big floor models (she just rolled her eyes)

Can any one shed some like on this for me.

HDMI will let you use audio options that fiber optic won't - mainly, the lossless audio that has more data than fiber can transmit. If you wind up with the 805, you'll get terrific sound with HDMI, and very good (but old-school) sound from the fiber connection. Go HDMI if at all possible.

Show your wife the Definitive Tech Mythos line of speakers - she'll like them, I bet. Real works of art, and terrific, huge sound from very slender units.
