Default Mothra on HD TV (Blu-ray soon?)

http://www.scifijapan.com/articles/2...n-hd-in-japan/

Who would want Mothra on Blu? I never saw any of the Mothra films (well, never saw ones that didn't also include Godzilla), but they look interesting.

they are really nice films, the third and final one in the trilogy was never released in the usa on dvd so an official, nicely done set would look stunning. the only complaints some had about the trilogy is that it was to aimed at children. if you love kaiju i think you would enjoy these, i love them.

Your poll should be multiple selectable. I want the classic TOHO Mothra and I want Godzilla on Blu-ray. Besides, they both appeared in several movies together.

I heard Rebirth of Mothra 3 is one of the best Kaiju movies!

i would have to say the rebirth of mothra trilogy is probably some of the most colorful kaiju ive ever seen. The various forms of mothra was a really nice idea and the films overall are visually stunning. the first two in the trilogy were released in the usa as a double disc and the third you can pick up from various japan orientated sites like cdjapan and yesasia.

Are they playable on our BD/DVD player?

All Japan BDs are Region A which will play on USA blu-ray players. Not sure about the DVDs.

the first two mothras you can get on one dvd from amazon quite cheaply, the third one has to be imported and no they are region 2 dvds so you have to have an all region player, which is a necessity in having one being a godzilla fan. the australian region 4 discs in some cases are superior in every way to the american releases, especially with titles like godzilla vrs megalon which was only released in the usa as a mystery science theatre episode, which is no longer available anyway. collecting japanese films is extremely time consuming and expensive, especiallly as you get into kaiju and even less known film sub genres. hope this helps.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00003L9CE/ , to be precise.

(And no, the new versions, aren't really that good--
Turned into actual kiddie-matinees, complete with Power Rangers-style villainess...And the Twins aren't even twins anymore, fer cryin' out loud!)

There were rumors that Sony was going to clean up their last remaining Toho's for R1 box--which would be 60's Mothra, New Mothra 3, and The Mysterians--but that's been for a while now.

I would defintily get the original MOTHRA film on blu ray.... and would probably get the 90's trilogy as well just to help out the cause(Kaiju on blu!).

So, we got Gamera and Daimajin coming on on blu later this year.. And with Godzilla and the Mothra films being aired in HD, it's safe to say they'll be out on blu before 2011. I would be shocked if they aren't out before then.

You are right cookson and it will be beyond brilliant to finally own all of these in high definition, i just dread to see the cost to be honest. The magma taishi set has just come out recently and for the full set on dvd, you are talking import of 536 or more roughly. I love the stuff but its so very expensive and i seriously doubt there will be any english subs same as with the two different region 2 sets released.

I believe Sony have the set penciled in for the Fall under their "Icons of..." series. Films included will be the two Mothra films you mentioned, The H-Man and Battle In Outer Space. I'm looking forward to it.

All I got to say is that they better release all 28 Godzilla films before they do any other kaiju releases like Rodan, Frankenstein Conquers the World (Frankenstein Vs. Baragon), War of the Gargantuas, Varan, or Mothra.

Last I read they had decided to break the Mothra films out of the set for a later release date. I am looking forward to The H-Man when that finally arrives. I've also read they're doing a restoration of the original Mothra much in the vein of the Classic Media sets that came out.

Yeah I read that too. I have the 1961 Mothra film on VHS. I like the US edit but I would like to see it fully uncut, subtitled, and in widescreen; plus in High Defintion.

Assume you're referring to the fact that those have already been released in bilingual/cleaned-up R1 SD?

I have the R1 DVDs for those. Classic Media and Tokyo Shock did a good job on those releases. I'm talking about the Blu-Ray releases.
