Question Polk R50 or Monitor 50

New to forum, hello to all. Going to be setting up a 5.1 surround soon. Reading past threads and picked-up alot of usefull info. Going to start with Onkyo SR606. Front speakers will be Monitor 50. During my research I also came across R50's. Now I'm confused. The speakers look different with a opening on the bottom of the R50. Is the Monitor 50 a newer and better speaker than the R50. I could use opinions on this because like I said Im a lil . Thanks

The Monitor 50s are a series up from the R50s. The Monitors are a better speaker.

The Monitors are a step up from the R50s, but I have researched the Rs and have read nothing but good things about them. They apparently have major bang for the buck and produced great clarity and quality, as well as a considerably punchy low end. I am considering taking advantage of Fry's online deal on the R's for $58 each. The Monitors will improve on quality, but the R's are apparently a good speaker at a great price.

My speakers arrived today.2 Monitor 50s-front, 2 Monitor 30s-surround,& CS2-center. Box a lil damaged but speakers look great. After I checked out speakers, I had to buy a TV,to go with them, so I ordered a Samsung LN46A860. Next on my list is a sub & ONKYO TX-SR606

I am in a very similar situation as you. So far i've got an Onkyo 605, CS2, and pair of black Monitor 50's. I am debating about getting a set of either R50's or another set of Monitor 50's as my rear speakers. For the price, its hard to argue you're not getting a good deal either way you go. But i scored my pair of brand new Monitor 50's for $100 apiece with free shipping. I think for the price difference, you're getting your moneys worth going with the Monitors.
