160gb PS3 - Blu-ray Forum

I had an old friend call me and ask me if I wanted a new PS3 for $200. (He said he has 16 of them -- I don't know how he acquired them, and I probably don't want to know

) I asked him which model and he said the 160 gb. I told him they didn't make a 160, only an 80, 60, or 40 gig model. Anyway, I did a little research and sure enough, Sony unveiled the 160 gig model in October. I don't think they're in stores yet because the only thing CC and Best Buy are selling is the 80 gig model. Anyhow, I digress...

I thought about it and told him no because I already have stand alone BD player, and a Nintendo Wii. I'm not much of a gamer anyhow so I don't think I'd get much use from the game system portion of the PS3. Also, I don't know the legalities of these machines, and if I bought one, if I could get in trouble if something does go down with him.

So, what do you guys think? I am a fool for not picking this up for $200?

if you buy stolen merch, you can get in trouble too. whether you know its stolen or not.

but the 160's are being sold in stores..at least i've seen them in my local best buy.

All I did was check Best Buy online and only seen the 80 gig model. So, yeah, probably not a good idea to go through with that transaction.

Actually, the 160GB systems have been in stores for at least a month. I've seen them in Best Buy and Wal-Mart in Ohio. I'm not sure why you haven't seen them yet.

They retail for $499.

I would have bought 2-3 and kept one. The rest would go on eBay.

I called back my buddy yesterday and he said they were gone. Not surprising at that price. Oh well... He still won't tell me where they came from.

I'd find out the model number and if they are actually new. Might be old/used ones with 160g drives dropped in them.

I dropped a 250G in mine over the holiday

I would've bought it. As long as you don't mind not having a warranty. Or like others have said, I would have sold it on ebay.

Hes referring to the new 160GB PS3 Model, not a hard drive that can be used in a PS3.
