The other day i went to a friend's house to help him setup his subwoofer that was given from my brother in law. My friend has Samsung LN46A650 & Sony S350 Blu Ray and Sony Reveiver. I forgot the model of the receiver. But it has 4 HDMI connections.
What i noticed, he did not use any of his HDMI connections from the receiver. So i asked him why? He said that my brother in law setup for him and he does not know why he did this way. - From the Blu-Ray... HDMI straight to the TV. - From the cable tv box..... coax to Audio Digital out to receiver and HDMI to TV I had an arguement with about this. I told him why not plug HDMI from Sony Blu-Ray to Receiver and another HDMI from Receiver to TV. For cable tv box either use component cable to TV or HDMI to Receiver....He said doing that way i will lose alot of Video Signal something like that.... So can someone tell me which setting is better i would appreciate....i guess im trying to prove him that he is wrong. Thanks to everyone |

it doesn't seem to make sense the way the blu player is hooked up. are you using tv speakers for movies then?
you're obviously right, you don't lose any video signal going through the receiver. you really just need one cable going to your tv. everything else should go into the receiver. |

well, I think it just depends on what receiver your friend has?
...if its an HDMI (audio) compatible, he will definitely benefit by going bluray through the receiver. ...if its not HDMI, then no harm going directly to the TV as long as he's using an optical cable for audio to the receiver. ![]() |

As i said earlier, i dont know the model of the receiver. But it is Sony with 4 HDMI connections.
After reading all you guys replies, i just remember he did use another coax cable to receiver also...i think...weird??? So either way, his setup or my setup still works the same, right? Or mine has more benefits going thru receiver. |

But, the Sony 720 only handles PCM so the HD audio must be internally decoded inside the player first. Anything Lossless the player Bitstreams will not be utilized. So, he will get up to 7.1 Uncompressed PCM and Dolby TrueHD, but unfortunately he will only get the lossy 5.1 Dts (not Dts-HD MA). But two out of three aint bad! and yes, he should connect using HDMI to the receiver. Well at least for the Bluray player anyway. ![]() |
