Why cant they make a System Shock 3? - Blu-ray Forum

I mean if you go on the gamespot message boards there is still people chatting on those boards 10 years later. What's the problem, why cant they make a newer version, this game would be as huge as Resident Evil 5 or Dead Space, probably more. Sci Fi Horror rocks.

Well you thought wrong. The 2 System Shock games were 2 of the most underrated games on the PC. I don't know why they didn't sell. Bad marketing, perhaps?

I love System Shock, but Bioshock was better in almost every way and is a spiritual successor to the franchise. I'd rather they really make sure Bioshock 2 isn't a rehash of 1 with different levels.

The original companies that made the System Shock games, Looking Glass Studios and Irrational Games (2K Boston) don't hold the rights to the System Shock name, which is why Ken Levine's team made Bioshock as System Shock's spiritual successor. Unfortunately, EA owns the rights to the System Shock franchise, and they've renewed the rights to keep them current.

There has been speculation that EA wants to make System Shock 3, but so far none of the original developers are rumoured to take part.

I guess System Shock 3 would have been the one positive had EA been successful in its takeover bid of 2K Studios. At least then Ken Levine would have access to System Shock again. Personally, I'd rather keep the studios separate and wait for Bioshock 2.

So far Bioshock will remain the little brother to system shock 2, as it was a large step backwards with more mainstreamed ideas that simply watered the experience down..

System Shock 2 was more of an rpg then bioshock, with user inventories, and determining what to use power ups for.. increase your strength carry more or increase your abilities with pistols...

In system shock 2 you learned the ability to juggle guns, you might have 3 or 6 shot guns each with 1 to 3 shots left give or take before they snapped in half, as desperately went from one gun to the next...

At times you might have 3 pistols each with a slightly different upgrade with different ammo.. one in good condition and 2 others in various states of condition, usually one ready to break, a larger weapon for big bad guys, your hand to hand weapon if you ran out of ammo which you will run out of ammo..
as most likely if you had alot of guns you probably had minimal to no magical use as the game made you choose and if you tried to do everything you would be weak at everything...

If the box had been painted red it would have sold 3 times better..

Wow, wouldnt it be great if they gave that project to the Dead Space team...

Im not sure they could match how scary system shock 2 was though..
that was the only game to ever make me fearful for my very own life...
