Default Question about setting up Onkyo 606 receiver and samsung 1500 bluray player to play

DTS HD Master Audio and Dolby TrueHD.

Does anyone know how to configure the settings to bitstream these correctly to the Onkyo?

I have the samsung set to bitstream but it still isn't working.

I swear I did mine at home no prob but with there set up I can't get hd audio the display keeps saying hdmi passthrough and 5.1. Also there direct tv dvr hd box isn't doing audio at all thru the hdmi cable. So frustrating Can you tell me the best settings for these to components to get hd audio for blu. And for the direct tv cable...Thanks in advance!

BD35 Settings: HDMI Audio set to Bitstream, Secondary Audio turned OFF.

Onkyo Settings: HDMI Audio Out = OFF

...as for the cable box, can't speak on personal use with DirecTV...did you assign the input on the Receiver to use HDMI audio? does the Directv box have any audio options?

Yes, I guess on the Onkyo 606 they call it TV Audio Out.

Set it to Off.

The Onkyo 605 calls it HDMI Audio Out.

Sweeeeeeet! Ok that fixed the blu ray question but the direct tv still has no audio direct tv audio options are limited. Only choices for audio is 5.1 dolby on or off. Neither setting does any sound. But they had it wired so hdmi out for picture then rca jacks (white and red), for audio. I know you don't know direct tv but shouldn't be able to do the audio out of the hdmi cable if it does the picture no problem?

yes, audio should be output over the HDMI cable. Which makes me think the receiver input isnt set up right...or the DirecTV box has an issue with audio over the hdmi connection. You can always try to use an Optical cable.

Mulliganman, try cycling through your Listening modes with the receiver remote...

on pg.71 of the user manual there is a Listening Mode Preset option...does yours look like this:

Dolby TrueHD = Dolby TrueHD
Dts-HD MA = Dts-HD MA

Default In big letters

"DVD" and the volume level. In little letters, it looks like Dolby Digital in red, HDMI, and PLIIX. This is for the movie Elf which has Dolby TrueHD option and after I selected this option with the bluray remote. The TrueHD should show on the display that is why I can't figure out what is wrong.

ok, when you select Dolby TrueHD on the movie...use your bluray remote and hit the "Info" button.

What does it show?

Default The listening modes are set to that

and the onkyo receiver still shows the same display as what I described in my last post. Does it matter what the other listening modes are set to on the receiver?
