Ok with income tax I'm going to be buying the Onkyo 805 very syked by this. Not 100% sure what sub I'm gonna get. Here's my question for you guru's out there. When you set up your HTS. How do you calibrate your sub to the best? And also, do you adjust the volume or the gain each time you pop in a new movie?
Ex: You adjust for say Drak Knight. Then when thats over you pop in Ironman. Do you adjust your sub for th ebest qaulity thump, or do you just leave it alone. Basicly do you turn up or down for each movie or do you set it at one volume for al movbies. Personaly I find my self adjusting for every movie. Is that a good thing or doesn't really matter. Please help I want to have a rockin system. ![]() |

Go with the MFW-15
![]() I tend to listen to mine at about 1/3 gain, sometimes lowering it to 1/4 gain because its a beast. Also, my levels on the Onkyo 805 are at -15dB. Even at 1/3 gain on the sub it still knocks things off the coffee table. |

I answered it. I said mine is usually at 1/3 gain but sometimes I lower it to 1/4 gain because its so freakin loud. No need for but kickers when you've got this sub.

i think it is just personal preference.
I just leave it at the same level for everything. A properly calibrated sub does not mean that it will thump as loud as it can for each movie or application, louder does not mean better. I like to notice my sub but i do not want it to the be the only thing i notice when watching a movie, Subs can very easily over power the rest of your system, but to each his own, it is just a matter of taste as to how you want to experience the sound from your system when you watch a movie |

Sometimes you have to make those on the fly adjustments. |

Blu-Ray's seem to be more consistant in LFE levels but here's what I do on my Mirage sub and receiver in case some discs have over-blown bass levels...
My receiver has the Subwoofer level up full but the LFE level down to it's lowest point in the menu system but my subwoofer itself never changes nor do I want it to. It's more of a pain to go into the back of the sub and play with the levels. My sub has the main volume at almost half, the phase at 180 and crossover at just past half way. When I get a disc with low LFE, I raise the LFE level on the receiver with the remote. If the bass is over-modulating like on Blade3, I lower the subwoofer level the same way - through the receiver's remote. I have 1700 discs, 185 of those Blu-rays and I'll make a note and stick that inside the cover of a disc to remind myself to raise or lower things before the film starts. Might be anal but it makes my life a lot easier! |
