Default Any Chance the classic "Predator" is going to get re-worked?

I love this movie (one of my favorites) but I have heard very negative reviews about the disc. Is the source material beyond hope and this is the best we can get? Or can we expect to see a re-work in the future?

Doesn't look like it's going to happen any time soon.

By the way, it's not as bad as some would suggest. It's the best Predator has ever looked. If you're a fan, get it.

EDIT: It's going to be $14.99 at Best Buy starting this Sunday, January 11th.

I have to disagree. The BD looks meh at best. I know its a grainy and washed out film but I honestly think they could do better....my brother in law literally thought it was a DVD upscaled when he walked by and stopped to take a peek.

Is it one of the better BDs out there? No, but I do love the film as a poster said above... it is the best looking version of the film out there hence it was a no-brainer for me to purchase.

It seems like a lot of action movies from the mid 80s to early 90s used really crappy film. Is it a coincidence that Predator, Total Recall, Terminator 1/2, Commando, etc all look poor? It's not simply their age because if you look at Road Warrior from 79 it looks jaw dropping. I think for these movies to look really good some major restoration would have to be done which probably will not happen until Blu-ray becomes more of a standard.

They might be able to get alittle more outta the pic but I think its just how the film is. Alot of these 80's flicks seem to be very poor quality film or somethin.

Predator is one of my all time favorites, and it was a no brainer for me to purchase for the holidays!!!

After comparing both formats, I can tell the PQ on some scenes where better and some look the same. However, the AQ no comparison, my system was rocking just blowing my ears away!!! If you have a good system, you will appreciate the blu-ray version.

I'm still holding out for that Aliens/Predator set to be released on Blu before I buy anymore movies from those franchises.

If I remember my limited cinema history correctly I think you pretty much nailed it. There was a period where the studios were using cheap film stock that just doesn't hold up. The only way to get anything better out of some of those films would be to go back to the negative, restore it, and make a new master from there. For most of these movies I don't think there is much incentive to invest that much. Especially not from 20th Century Fox. Tom Rothman HATES fantasy and science fiction films, which is evidenced by the number of high profile turds that studio has put out in recent years.

Right on!! There's no need for old titles to look crappy.

Look at what they did to the original Star Wars trilogy for the special edition laserdisc editions. They physically cleaned all the film rolls...

And Predator being THE ultimate action movie of all time deserves a pristine Blu-ray release!

You're wrong. I won't explain in detail because there's a ton of threads already about this topic.

The Predator BD looks like pure film at 1080p/24. It was filmed on location using 80's film stock which has a grainy, drabby look to it.

For those of you complaining of the quality, simply turn up the DNR dial on your display and player to remove the grain. You might as well turn up the sharpness controls too.

Well in the 80's to the early to mid 90's a majority of the movies made in that time frame were made on cheap film stock so they won't look as good as a movie made today or even a movie made in the 70's or 60's on blu-ray. The only thing they can do is maybe use a AVC codec for it and bump up the bitrate, that may help some but I think Predator looks as good as it can.
