bought a blu-ray player and connected through a new A/V receiver, then to my tv. The video comes though the HDMI but no sound?? anyways here is my set up,
Sony wega 42" LCD Sony blu-ray BDP-S350 Sony A/V receiver STR-DG720 now my wega is 5ish years old and has no HDMI input so i went with a HDMI to DVI cord. I know most of you think well theres your problem, but that cord goes from my AV receiver to the tv so i don't need the audio to carry through it. I have a HDMI cord going from the blu-ray to the AV and the video comes through the tv perfectly but i've spent hours trying to adjust the audio settings and make the sound work... is there anybody who knows what my problem is?! thank you |

could be you need to set up the audio out from either your player or set the hdmi input to a function button like the 'aux' button. on my receiver there is also a setting to turn off the audio to prevent the audio to go through the hdmi out of the receiver so that it can output through the surround speakers.

your player decodes tru hd and can send pcm. maybe your receier can handle pcm audio. at least you can get hd audio for most discs. with dts hd youll get the core dts 5.1

just saw the main page at sony style for your receiver. your receiver will output pcm. if you want another option is to exchange the player for one that will decode all the codecs like a ps3 (one of the cheapest options.) if you dont want to upgrade your receiver
